dd2 has fallen in love with these pettiskirts but they're sooo expensive i'm not sure i can justify it! on the other hand i think we all know how much a frou frou girl would love one and it's not much for your hearts desire is it? Grin

do you think it would be possible for a beginner to make one? i'm a bit worried about the gathers being even as last time (ie first time) i gathered i found it tricky.

there are various tutorials on web
this is a good one but don't want to muck it up and dd1 will want one too...would i be better off just buying them?

also, if i do take the plunge - the fabric shops online i've looked at don't say if their chiffon is nylon or not (it has to be nylon so edges don't fray). can anyone shed any light, advice, dire warnings on my situation?

ta!

I am an intermediate sewer with quite a bit of experience, but I wouldn't try to make one of those Angel's Faces petticoats and find it comes out anything like how it's supposed to!

Also, the amount of fabric you would need, not to mention time, would make it cost prohibitive I think.

I think you would definitely be better of buying one then selling it on Ebay afterwards :-). They've been around for a long time, they'll always be covetable. In fact, have you looked on Ebay for 2nd hand ones yet?

You can get polyester or silk chiffon. Both are woven and both fray like mad. I think what they mean by "nylon" chiffon is the sort of stuff that.. it's hard to describe.. vintage 60's babydoll dresses are made out of - it's sheer but will curl up at the end rather than fray. Used in dance costumes for that reason. It's also pretty expensive, as is poly/silk chiffon. Poly chiffon costs from around £4/m and silk chiffon from around £12/m. That nylon, non-fraying "chiffon" is quite HTF and would probably cost upwards of at least £7-8/m unless you get some truly awful bargain bucket stuff somewhere, usually in a horrid colour such as neon orange Hmm

thank you bellepink. i'm going to get credit card out! i also just watched a martha stewart video and just sewing all those ruffles to all those other ruffles. Shock way beyond my ability. even martha stewart said it would be easier to buy one.

thanks so much for all that info. it sounds like an impossible project for me. phew. i'm off the hook!
