I used to dressmake/sew quite a lot

I used to be quite good - made Jackets, dresses, home furnishings etc

I am about to embark on a new project

So who do nice easy patterns nowadays?

I want a princess line sleeveless, and a 1950's full skirt dress, and a full circle skirt

TIA

Simplicity do a Sew Easy range, I quite like New Look patterns too. The best thing to do is have a look through all the pattern books at your local shop (if you have one!). On the other hand if you're looking for something authentically vintage - try ebay. There are loads of old patterns on there, probably need a bit more altering though. I've recently bought a 1980's evening dress pattern from ebay that has come up really nice.

You shouldn't need a pattern for a circle skirt, there are loads on online instructions on how to make them.

Hopefully all your old skills will come flooding back to you!

Not sure what the "hideous high-necked basic pattern" you mean TheButterflyEffect.....

No local shop......not even a fairly near shop

Dont forget the sizing in old patterns is totally different. A size 12 is NOT a modern size 12 Smile

I think I'll buy a modern pattern - I can't imagine I'd cop with the sewing involved with an older pattern - they were taught to sew in those days

This site is good - Pattern Review

I am a beginner & just went through their "must have" patterns, chose one (newlook 6557)& then bought from my local fabricland.

Still havent got round to making it though Blush
