Nuchal fold test high risk result

I've just got back from my Nuchal fold test and I have been told I am currently high risk.

The test was 2.4 mm and has increased my risk from 1 in 183 (I'm 36) to being 1 in 35. I feel pretty wretched about it too be honest. I'm shocked at how much worse it's made my results.

I've had bloods done and I'll get the combined test results on Monday or Tuesday. Although the doctor indicated that it would be unlikely that the bloods would push me out of the high risk group. The nasal bone is there and other stuff appears normal apparently.

This feels particularly tough as I have only just had my third miscarriage and got pregnant straight away so I guess I was hoping that this would the start of the happy bit. Instead I feel I'm starting on another journey of terrible waiting and uncertainty.

Having babies can be so hard sometimes can't it!

Thinking of you today. This really is awful for you. While I was waiting for my CVS results I went out for the day and met up with a couple of friends who knew what was happening. I asked them to give me a hug and then talk about anything other than what was happening to me at the time and it was a real help and got me through that day.

Take good care of yourself xx

thumbwitch · 20/01/2010 09:22

peanutpie, thinking of you as well. I hope they get the results to you in good time - I'm sure they know how stressful the waiting is for you and will do their very best.

Still got everything crossed - packing for our trip to the UK is a leetle difficult that way but worth it if you get a good outcome.

Have a ((hug)) - you probably need it - and countrybump's idea is a good one.

I so hope you get a good call tomorrow - you really can't know... I was convinced it was not going our way spent 3 days pretty much crying my eyes out. As I said the results came back fine (he's actually due tomorrow!) Your results are more positive than mine were please try and keep yourself busy.

Thinking of you x

We've got the results and the baby is fine. We are both just sat in a daze wondering what the hell we have just been through over the last week. I think it'll take a little while to sink in!

Thanks so much for all your support.

Brilliant news peanutpie, so very happy for you and your family xx

Jux · 20/01/2010 22:16

Really good news peanutpie.

I didn't post before as my results were 1 in 25, I had CVS and the baby was a girl with Down's Syndrome. DH and I had a hard time, but the hospital almost bulldozed me into having a termination.

However, I was pregnant again within a year and have a lovely dd who is now 10.

So glad that wait is over for you, the results are great and you can have a relaxed and happy pregnancy.

shangrila · 20/01/2010 23:32

Marvellous news peanutpie. I am delighted for you.

Now rest up, relax and all the best for a troublefree pregnancy.

fifitot · 21/01/2010 08:36

I am so pleased to hear your result. Now you can begin to enjoy the pregnancy again.

thumbwitch · 22/01/2010 09:06

peanutpie, so pleased for you that you had a good outcome! ><
(Sorry you weren't so lucky, Jux )

so presumably you know now whether you're having a boy or a girl?

peanutpie · 23/01/2010 14:59

Thanks again for your messages and support. I particularly feel this for people who didn't have a good outcome from the results. It's really lovely of you to have helped me in this way.

Fifitot - I think you've got to go with your guts with this stuff. I definitely would have cried if I couldn't have had the test.

Thumbwitch - It's a girl, so a baby sister for our son. We weren't going to find out and then we asked with all the madness of the results. I feel really weird about knowing, so at the moment I'm trying to ignore it and imagine it could be either!
