How did you feel after CVS?

Hello - I had my CVS test yesterday. Was absolutely terrified but the whole thing wasn't too bad. I think actually deciding to have it done then waiting for the appointment was worse than the actual procedure.

I just wondered how other women felt the next day? My tummy is very very tender and I'm scared to move! I haven't had any cramping though.

Is this normal?

Sounds perfectly normal, I was in quite a lot of discomfort for a couple of days, found reaching quite hard.

Good luck with the results

BK xx

My tummy felt a bit tender for a couple of days afterwards, but other than that it all felt normal. I think the anxiety makes you so tense that you just feel 'funny'.

Good luck with the results. Will you get the quick ones?

I just felt very tired and emotional the day after, and wanted to sleep/rest. They often have to put that (horribly big) needle through muscle, so it's bound to feel bruised.
Hope you are able to rest and relax now. Do update with results if you feel like it. The waiting now is hard too!
Best wishes.

I felt fine. Bit like I'd done too many sit- ups.

Am waiting for my results too - come through tues.

My tummy was pretty bruised afterwards- with quite impressive bruises coming through after 48hrs, and now 2 months later can still see a slight mark where the needle went in- but that could be because they had to go in twice to get enough tissue and had a good rummage around which wasn't very pleasant. I too was lucky and didn't get any cramping, just felt tender and I was quite light-headed for the first 24hrs.

I was told to take it very easy for first 48hrs, and then I did feel a lot better. Emotionally however it was fairly horrendous until the results came through (was exceptionally exhausted)- thankfully for us all was fine, but had to wake nearly a full week.

Good luck echops and peanuthead, thinking of you both x

JumpingJellyfish · 31/08/2009 12:22

oops 'wake'? 'wait' of course!

Hello - thanks all so much for your messages. Got my results back yesterday and everything is fine. Can't tell you of my relief. Now just need to get through the next week without panicing too much about miscarriage.

Peanuthead - have read some of your other posts and am sending you all my best wishes for a similar positive outcome.

echops so glad your results came back with everything fine, what a relief.
The consultant who did my CVS said that the highest risk of miscarriage as a result of the CVS is within the first 72 hours, it is much less likely to occur after that and be due to the CVS- he said part of the seemingly high mc risk from CVS is actually because natural mc can still occur at a fairly high frequency up to 14wks, so CVS done before this time may coincide with what would happen anyhow rather than due to the procedure itself, if you see what I mean. Not sure that is very reassuring but really the chance of mc now due to the CVS is very low, so hard as it is try not to worry.
Hope you have a long, happy & healthy pregnancy x

peanuthead read your other posts too last week, really feel for you. Just wanted to say I'm holding you in my thoughts xx

Ive just has a cvs and am very worried. I dont have cramps but my stomach feels very sore and tight..im 25years old and 13weeks 5days pregnant. And have been told that there is a 1in10 chance my baby could have down syndrome. Is the feeling in my stomach normal? Any advice would be appreciate it..

Mummyinamask · 31/03/2015 22:44

I felt fine. And even during the wait, it felt better that I'd know rather than 'markers' for this and that, coming and going, that I'd lived with in first pregnancy. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Hope you feel ok and hope the results are what you want, to all those waiting.

SaggyAndLucy · 01/04/2015 02:47

Emma I think that sounds quite normal. perhaps you could give the hospital that did it a call in the morning to just check in and let them know you feel a bit rubbish. All the best for your results. I know just how hard the awful wait is and how your mind is probably working overtime. xx

KittyandTeal · 01/04/2015 17:31

Emma, I'd say that's pretty much how I felt after my amnio too.

Keep an eye on your temp etc, if you start feeling unwell (rather than having a sore tummy) then call the docs.

I'm sure you've been told all this though x
