Triple test 1:7, CVS tomorrow

Had my 12 week scan yesterday and the NF was 7mm - which is huge. We were given a risk factor of 1:3 and got bloods today which put it down to 1:7 for the two other trisomy's and 1:2 for Down's. They were very bleak - the mw said there was little chance of survival in utero anyway with a fold that thick.

I'm 41 and the worst of it is we had a failed IVF in April where we were told I would be unable to conceive with my own eggs as they were so old and knackered and had started the donor process when I had a freak natural pregnancy. So this is really our last chance; we can't just go away and start trying again.

I'm angry this has happened as it's a whole heap of misery for no reason - we were due to be off to have donor ivf next month and god knows when we'll be up to it now.

Worried about the risk of miscarriage being so high with CVS but can't face going beyond 14weeks with the likelihood of having to terminate as it would have to be a full labour then.

Don';t know what I'm asking really, just if anyone out there has been in a smiliar position - good stories and bad please.

Just to reiterate what Bee said, really. Poor poor you. I had a terrible nuchal similar to yours and was told either chromosomal or cardiac abnormalities; mine were chromosomal although they came with cardiac and other problems. I remember thinking, what on earth would a good CVS result look like in my position??!

Anyway I really hope you get some good news and soon. This delay is absolutely awful.

Like Bee I live on the support after termination thread. I hope very much that you won't need to join us - but you will be welcome, whether or not you need to. I really hope your story has a happy ending. Take care.

Just to add a little hope... We were told that our baby had 'no chance' due to a severe cardiac anomoly found during a scan - that baby is now 13 years old & thriving (though not without a great deal of struggle &, forgive me, heartache, along the way). His condition is still regarded as the most serious single ventricle diagnosis & has a bleak prognosis antenatally but it is not hopeless...

finally got the cvs results back - all clear. Don't really know how I feel- just relieved not to be joining you all on the termination thread just yet. We've got a very long way to go, still too early to have any idea how bad the defect is etc and whether we may still have to terminate.

thank you all for all the support - kept me going, good stories and bad. will be starting a new heart thread somewhere or other, but not here, and keeping an eye out for anyone else with a high nuchal to offer my support back. and praying I do stay away from the termination thread - heartbreaking stories on there, just hope I don't have to go through similar....

Peanuthead, what a relief your results came through today and that they were clear. I understand your still in a difficult place right now and I hope you get some answers soon about your LO's heart. I found the pregnancy thread on heartline so supportive when DS was diagnosed with an AVSD defect right through to when he had surgery. There are are a lot of knowledgable and caring parents on there.

I have just read all of this thread, oh my gosh tears are streaming down my face reading about all the horrors you ladies have been throuhg, and PeanutHead, the stress and pain you and your family are going through too - My thoughts are with you -x-x-x-

Recently my nephew was born with Aperts, and it was a huge shock to my sister, I now look at my DD and feel consumed with love - I really hope you all get a happy ending and closure x

Oh that's good news peanuthead. Even if it doesn't feel like it yet. Do be aware that medics can be very doom and gloom when it comes to discussing heart problems. I know a number of people who have been given very negative prognosises only for it to be not nearly so bad at birth (a number of stories on mnet). Other parents such as peanut who have been through it might be better at giving the low down.
Fingers crossed that all the news continues to be good.

Hi Angry, yes we had the terminaton 4 weeks ago - turned out the heart defect would have been inoperable, not only a single ventricle defect but also a leaky tricuspid valve. Was a boy, still trying to deal with it.
