Fetal Ascites - 32 Weeks

Hi there, looking for some reassurance.
I went in to hospital for what I thought was a routine growth scan at 32 weeks and during the ultrasound it was discovered that my baby has a significant (moderate - severe) amount of fluid in her abdomen. The fetal medicine doctor told us that this was fetal ascites.
The fluid hasn't spread elsewhere - there is a subtle skin edema on baby's neck and I have moderate - severe polyhydraminos (too much amniotic fluid).
An amniocentesis was done as well as TORCH tests to check bloods for infections/congenital issues.
Would really love to hear any positive stories anyone has of fetal ascites. I just want my baby to be born alive and we can deal with everything else then.

Hello @StarGirl94. How are you? I went through a similar experience with my little boy who is now 2. After lots of testing and no answers he was born with a perforated bowel. Happy to talk more. Sending love to you and your baby xx

my daughter had ascites from around 20 weeks pregnant and general Edema - we knew these were linked to her having Down syndrome and being at higher risk of fluid issues and so we just prayed she would be healthy enough to make it. She was born early (I had poly too) at 34w and I think the extra fluid did cause my waters to break early. C section was safest due to low placenta, poly and my baby’s ascites being so large. Once baby is born they will able to get to the cause. My daughter was in NICU for a while and she had v rare lymphatic issue resulting in chylous ascites so she needs special food meds etc. but she is an amazing blessing and has been so strong! Wishing you all the best and happy to answer any Qs x
