Breech baby at 33 weeks?

I've had a scan today and the baby is in the breech position (I'm 33+1). The midwife wants me to come back in 3 weeks to check it has moved into a birthing position.

Is it normal for babies to be breech at this stage? Do they normally flip on their own? I'm a little worried about having the ECV or C section. Trying not to worry, the midwife said babies can flip but online I've read that most babies are already in the birthing position at this stage

Anyone had any experience of this?

Is it your first or second baby? First babies tend to get into position earlier, whereas second or more babies can keep moving until very late on. DD2 was breech until 39+2, turned head down (i felt it happen), and was born at 39+3!

Have a look at the spinning babies website and do the positions they recommend. You should look into moxibustion as well. I'd also recommend booking a birth options discussion with a consultant midwife. Mine was really good - went through all the different risks and benefits, including ECV, c section and vaginal breech birth. I declined ECV, booked a c section but obviously didnt need it in the end.

Yes! My first was breech at 34 weeks. She turned very soon after and all was fine. The suggestion to look at the spinning babies website is a good one.

33 weeks is still quite early, although defo time to try some positions to aid many to flip head down. Dd2 was transverse and she moved at 36 weeks. Spinning babies is good but lots of sitting on a birth ball with wide hips, you need to give her space to move down. Also no slouching on the sofa, keep yourself propped up as I was told this gives them too much space up the top and the head is the biggest part of them so tends to stay where there space good luck

Thank you all! That's really helpful, it's my first baby so I thought they should have already got in position. I had a midwife appointment a couple weeks ago and she said they were in position but must have flipped since. Hopefully they flip back. I'll have a look at that spinning baby website! Thank you

DS2 was breech at 36 weeks which was a worry as I was booked for a home birth and was told I couldn’t have one if he hadn’t turned. I went to my acupuncturist (who had previously been a midwife so I was really comfortable when he said he could help). Baby turned a few hours after my treatment and luckily stayed there.
