Hello, so I'm pregnant with my second and registered myself with the same hospital where I had my first. On the first appointment, all the routine tests were done and my blood pressure was checked - everything was fine. They found me on the system so have all of my records.
Minutes after leaving the hospital, my midwife called to say that she forgot to mention that because my BMI is on the low side (18), I'm apparently at risk of pre-eclampsia?
This really stunned me because I was literally the same weight when I had my daughter and no one ever mentioned the risk of pre-eclampsia.
I searched online and could not find anything that mentioned a correlation between low BMI and pre-eclampsia - it's only associated with a high BMI.
She also advised that due to this risk, I should start taking aspirin. I definitely don't feel comfortable doing that as it seems completely unnecessary, bearing in mind all of my tests were fine. Nothing has changed weight or health-wise since the first pregnancy, so am not sure where this is coming from.
Has anyone experienced this, where they've had a low BMI and were told that they're at risk of this condition?
Thanks!
