40+ year old. Will blood results by default be bad news?

Hi all,

41 & first pregnancy
had my EDD scan yesterday. Measurements all good and NT scan 1.50mm

now waiting to get blood results back. However will my bloods come back as high risk (by default) due to my age?

im a little confused as reading online it seems that if you’re 35+ no matter what you seem to get bad results from your bloods because of the age factor.

sorry if I’m being stupid! Thank you

Yes your age plays a factor - it's a higher risk. But you won't necessarily get a bad result. I was pregnant at the same age and all test results came back fine. So just wait and see what they say, hopefully it will all be good news 🤞

I'm 42 and 34 weeks pregnant with DD2 - it's not a given that your results will come back as high risk but it is a significant factor so you should prepare yourself incase they do.

I actually had a private NIPT before my 12 week scan as I figured it was very likely and didn't want the added stress

I was pregnant at 41/42 and did get high risk results, even though the NT measurement was low like yours.

Like a PP I had had an NIPT beforehand which was clear but it was still stressful to get the high risk result!

Baby was healthy though Smile
