Hi all, I've just tested positive over the weekend and I am so shocked.. I was wondering when is the earliest I can go for a private scan? Hoping someone can help me? Xx

I think you need to be about 6 weeks and then they can do a internal scan

Yes as above I would wait until 6 weeks, that way you can see a heartbeat and know it’s in the right place. I’ve had scans at 4+3 etc but that is often just hit n miss and as you’ll be paying for it I think you should wait a couple of weeks to make it worth it. Obviously if you can wait until 9 or something then all good.

6 weeks for viability scan. It's the earliest they can see a heart beat as a rule. Have a scan earlier and whilst they'll see a pregnancy they won't be able to tell you if it's viable so for peace if mind it's best to wait until after 6 weeks.

At least 6 weeks, as they can't typically see anything until then, because the pregnancy is too small at this stage.

It needs to be an internal scan to see anything at this stage.

Bear in mind that the egg is developing for about 2 weeks before intercourse occurs.

There's not really any medical benefit to going for an early scan - not to say you shouldn't if it's something you want to do.

Sometimes the very early scans cause more stress than they relieve. You see it on posts all the time where women go for scans at 6 weeks and don't see a heartbeat as it's just too early and that can be very worrying. When I've had early scans with the nhs due to previous losses the very earliest they will do is 7 weeks.

Thank you all. I'll try to hold off another 5-6 weeks so I'll be around 9-10 weeks then. I think them not being able to see anything or a heartbeat yet would stress me out more 🥺

Just to clarify an earlier poster, and this is very pedantic but it doesn't necessarily need to be an internal scan. It will depend on the position of the pregnancy, your body composition and how advanced the ultrasound technology is that they are using. It may need to be internal, but it isn't a definite. I've had a scan dated at 6 weeks and it wasn't internal. And no the baby wasn't underdeveloped, it's now a nearly 2 year old little terror! With an earlier pregnancy I had internal scans at 6 weeks and even needed it during the 12 week scan for a particular 'view'

Thank you @Sunseeker83 that's really reassuring and good to know Smile
