NHS DS risk blood tests - will I really be told within 3 days if high risk?

Hello! I have my NHS 12 week scan tomorrow! I had been buzzing to finally tell everyone straight after but then found out I wouldn't get my blood results for DS on the day (I get my blood taken the same day). Some googling tells me "If it's high risk you'll hear within 3 working days, otherwise it'll be two weeks".

This is an anxious person's worst nightmare😂 Can I really assume it's low risk if I haven't heard within 3 working days? My experience of the NHS is not that they would be that reliably efficient (I should know cos I work for the them lol🙈)

I'm seeing some people I would absolutely love to tell IP this weekend, but want to definitely wait until it's confirmed we are low risk, as after a lot of research we have decided we would terminate in case of DS. Would be so upset to think I'm in the clear after 3 days, only to get bad news a few days later... for those who have had high risk results, how long did it take to hear back? Aware it may also vary by health board, I'm in Scotland (Glasgow) Xxx

My combined test (the blood they take on the day) came back in a week's time, but I'm not in Scotland.

It was my understanding that if your scan is clear for any other soft markers for DS etc (they found slightly increased NT fluid on ours) that you wouldn't be offered the blood test. Unless maybe age comes into it? Or it's different in Scotland!

@loulamay I believe the combined screening is optional, but it's offered to everyone regardless of scan markers. I'm in England and I don't know anyone who hasn't had it done. I filled in the consent form at my booking appointment long before the scan. There were no soft markers on my scan.

@FunkyPigeon35 do you use any kind of app or online system for records? In my area we use mypregnancynotes and my results were visible online within 48 hours. The letter came through 2 days after that. So I imagine they would call you pretty much straight away as they're processed quickly.

Yes I use the BadgerNotes app!

At the scan today they told me it can take 7-10 working days to be told a high risk result (14 days for a low risk letter), I was very disappointed!

Hopefully my results will be uploaded sooner. Everything looked good on the scan, NT was 1.2, baby was bouncing around and waving its little legs, which made me very emotional and even more scared of a bad result😭 I wish my brain didn't work like this😖

I'm sure it'll be fine! My NT was 1.2 as well, and everything came back as lowest possible risk, despite me being a bit older. Fingers crossed your results come back quickly.
