Hey guys, been booked in for an early internal ultrasound tomorrow see how baby is doing (6 weeks), how was it for everyone? Bit nervous as the thing looks huge!

It's completely fine, absolutely painless. Let the technician know if you're feeling nervous as they're usually very understanding.

I had one on Christmas eve, but also had one in my last pregnancy. It is painless, not even uncomfortable! Please don't worry.

I've had an early transvaginal scan in both pregnancies, no issues and completely painless.

Just be aware that at 6 weeks it is hit and miss as to what you will be able to see, especially if your dates are a little out. It is far better to wait till after 8 weeks plus for a scan unless there are medical issues.

This scan is an urgent one at the hospital for them to make sure baby is okay, I'm praying they'll be able to see and tell me he's okay

Good luck but don't panic if there isn't much to see. Manage your expectations.

I measured 6+1 (LMP put me at 8+2) and was lucky to see an embryo and heartbeat so hopefully it'll be the same for you but I know others who didn't see that until closer to 7 weeks.

Under 6 weeks it could just be an empty gestational sac or, at most, a yolk sac and the start of a fetal pole. All completely normal.

It's likely you will be invited back for a follow up 10-14 days later to confirm all developing as it should be.

@sel2223 I've had the scan, they've confirmed baby (although a little dot at this point 😂) looks good, and where it should be. No concerns :)

I just had similar on Christmas Eve - should have been 7+5 but was measuring 6 weeks. I find it confusing as how can they possibly date you when sometimes nothing can be seen until later!? I'm sure of my dates as I was tracking ovulation, so it is worrying me!

AHBM2020 · 27/12/2024 18:18

@sel2223 I'm also very sure of my dates, as I was tracking my ovulation as a form of contraception. She put me at 5 weeks, even tho I'm almost 6 weeks now. She said the scan can be off about 5 days and not to worry. In the scan I could see my sack, and the little blob in it. Not much, but enough to be sure the baby was in the right spot and I hadn't miscarried.
