Combined screening

Hi, I recently had my 12w scan and bloods taken. Two days later I received a text message confirming my 1st trimester screening came back low risk and no further action was needed. I don't know the numbers and my next midwife appt isn't till early August. I might call next week to find out as we would consider private NIPT if the result was close to the threshold. It made me wonder how accurate and reliable the combined screening is. I appreciate they can't confirm for sure but at 36 I think I'd like a bit more reassurance. Has anyone decided to go with NIPT following a low risk result? Thank you x

Do you have digital maternity notes where you could see the results? If it would give you some peace of mind though, I'd just say do it x

Hi no I don't think so. My midwife never mentioned any digital notes. Will ask at my next appt. Thank you!

Do you know what your NT measurement was? That can be an indicator if higher.

If you can afford NIPT, I really recommend it. The combine screening is a pretty good indicator though.

My first pregnancy, at 38, came back at 1 in 8 for T21 and 1 in 5 for T13/18. We had a very high NT of 8mm at the scan though so we knew something was seriously wrong. A NIPT confirmed high risk for T18.

This pregnancy our combined screening came back 1 in 5000 and NIPT was low risk.

If in the UK it's a an called Badger notes - midwife should have mentioned it, that will show your results (1 in another number). You can call the hospital where you had your scan too.

If you can afford NIPT I'd say have it, I had low risk for all 3 and still had NIPT (I'm 38). Low risk again but I needed that extra reassurance.
