Antenatal tests

Should I tell the NHS at 12 week scan I have had private NIPT?

I've heard if I tell them I've had it done privately, they may not calculate the results of the initial 12 week screen. However, I would like this info, given a number of risk factors I have. Just wondering what everyone else did and what the NHS response was?

I didn't tell them. I didn't even think about it to be honest.

NIPT is a more sensitive test than the 12 week screening so not what benefit there is to still having the 12 week screening. But you don't need to mention it. I had a private reassurance scan at 8 weeks with my second pregnancy after miscarrying the first one. Didn't think to mention it.

When I went for my 12 week scan, they asked me if this was my first scan. I told him I'd had two private scans. Sadly baby had a very high NT, I went on to have a NIPT on the NHS and it came back high risk for T18.

I tend to agree with you though, I wouldn't mention the NIPT to get their risk ratios. Just be prepared for a question like I got!

In my experience the NHS does its scans and tests and you can have whatever else you want privately as an extra but unless something comes up as a concern, it won’t impact what the NHS does.

I had a NIPT but was still offered and took the NHS screening tests. No one commented on it. I'm pretty sure we mentioned it to the sonographer at the time too.
