Scan showing big head.. anyone else?

Anyone else had a baby measuring with a bigger head????

My baby is showing as 98th percentile for head.

My partner has a big head and was mentioned when he was a baby 32 years ago.

So it could be genetics, and I'm worried waiting for my midwife to contact me back.

It was done at a private scan....

I had that with my first DC at about 12 weeks. They checked again 2 weeks later and said it was within normal limits. Turns out nearly every scan I had with her had a different anomaly which corrected(?) itself at the follow-up scans. It seems her body parts were all growing at different rates. I learned to stop worrying after the 5th scan and to just wait for results because the worrying was doing me no good. I think I ended up with about 11 scans by the end of the pregnancy for different reasons.

Baby came out fine and healthy.

See if your midwife recommends a repeat scan after a period. Best of luck

Oh yes, DD always had a big head on scans and came out with one too. It has never looked out of proportion.
I also have a big head apparently - my consultant measured it after the scans and said it’s genetic.

My DD always measured 50th centile for body, limbs etc and always 98th for head. I still think she has a big head (jumpers get stuck going on etc) but she looks completely normal and in proportion. I’m hoping it’s just that she’ll be really brainy?!

Yep 98th percentile at 34 weeks according to the scan. 50th at birth. Scans are rubbish at predicting this stuff so try not to worry!

My middle son had a big head (so does his dad) and still probably larger than average. However, it was never noticed, except needing an adults helmet as a child. He is brainy though so that’s a bonus.

Didn’t cause any problems during birth.

Yup. Head and torso were 90th centile, femur was 14th. Had visions of tiny legs on an absolutely massive body and head, but needless to say she came out perfectly in proportion.

My DS has the same but you wouldn't know it. He's 11 now. Perfectly in proportion. :)

Mine needs adult helmets/hats and is brainy too. You wouldn't notice. My husband has the same perfectly shaped head :)
