Would you still have NIPT?

Hi all; I received results today from the combined screening test I had alongside my first scan this week. It's come back as 1 in 4127 for Down's syndrome, and less than 1 in 50,000 for Edwards & Pataus.

As I'm 40 we were open to all non-invasive tests, but now I have those results I'm thinking that I'm actually comfortable enough without NIPT? Or should we still consider it?

If it makes a difference breakdown from bloods were;

hCGb : 1.04 MoM
PAPP-A: 1:07 MoM
NT: 0.87 MoM

I've been reading all afternoon but still can't confidently wrap my head around what they indicate Confused

Thanks in advance

I think those seem good results so I wouldn’t be worrying if I were you and probably wouldn’t do the NIPT. It’s really up to you if you want further peace of mind.

greenfingers22 · 26/11/2023 10:06

I'm still glad I had an NIPT just for peace of mind, it's nice to have one less worry if you can afford it. I wouldn't have had one if it was going to add financial stress to what can already be an expensive few months though

But overall yes I don't regret getting one and would have one again :)

My results came back as 1 in 2400 for all three trisomies and I still went for NIPT as I knew I would still have that ‘what if?’ niggle for the rest of the pregnancy. For me (as an anxious person) it was the right thing to do, but you will know deep down what feels right for you. Your results are very encouraging so you may feel satisfied to move forward, but only you know if you’ll have that niggle too. If you think you will (and the cost won’t add to your anxiety), I’d just do it.

My results were similar at age 35 and I still had the NIPT. I was anxious though.

minipie · 28/11/2023 08:50

Depends whether the cost is a stretch or not.

TheShellBeach · 05/12/2023 11:33

Personally, I wouldn't.
I'm glad things are going well for you.

Brandyginger · 05/12/2023 11:36

I would have the NIPT. I had things happen in pregnancy that were incredibly rare / unlucky and my DC have genetic disorders that are 1/100,000. I would have jumped at the chance to have near definitive testing to rule out some issues (or be prepared for them).

SleepingStandingUp · 05/12/2023 11:36

I mean those odds, given your age, are very good so I wouldn't BUT if it will niggle away without it because you would definitely not complete the pregnancy if something was odd, then do it if you can afford it.

SleepingStandingUp · 05/12/2023 11:37

*off not odd. DS has wonky chromosomes, I Def didn't mean to be rude and say odd

AlltheFs · 05/12/2023 11:45

Do you want to know sex?
If you do then they can also run the sex chromosome related tests, so wider range than the combined test.

There’s nothing worrying about those results though for T13/18/21 to need it.

For me personally I wanted everything tested and also knowing sex was a bonus as I was super anxious. But it’s not cheap.

TheBirdintheCave · 05/12/2023 11:53

I'm 37 and we did both the NHS test and the NIPT.

FoleyHuck · 05/12/2023 13:39

Thanks all. I'm pretty sure I'm comfortable with the screening results as they are, but I'm seeing our midwife next week so will discuss with her too.

We've decided to leave the sex as a surprise.
