Polyhydraminos/ Large Foetal Abdominal Circumference

Hi all,

Went for a growth scan at 31+3 yesterday (due to high maternal BMI - no other risk factors, no diabetes, no high blood pressure etc.). Had absolutely no concerns until we had the scan and they've said I have more amniotic fluid (10.4cm) than they'd expect, baby is 'big', at an estimated 4lb 11oz already and her abdominal circumference is off the chart.

I've always said I should be two weeks further along than I am with my own dates and when we DTD but up until now baby has been measuring perfectly average for the dates the hospital gave us.

I dunno what I'm asking really, I'm just panicking. They're running tests for infections and testing me again for diabetes and I'm just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and had a healthy baby/normal delivery?

This is second baby, first baby was born at 38+6 weighing 7lb 7oz and was a perfectly straightforward non-instrumental birth.

Sorry you're going through this. I also have mild polyhydramnis at 31 weeks. babies with big tummies might well be weeing more and creating more fluid. There are risks associated with more fluid but I would just get the diabetes result first and go from there. In likelihood all will be fine they say. If your waters break, get on all fours to prevent cord prolapse!
