NIPT in Leeds - Iona at LGI?

Hi all,

I have read on here (old threads) and Google (old articles - 2016) that LGI offer IONA on a private basis, has anyone had it there, privately, recently please?

I had a consultant appointment yesterday at LGI and I asked and he didn't know anything about it. Just kept talking about it only being avail for high risk results, but he was shocked when I said it was at some point offered. Most recent thread is from 2021. Would love to know any newer info please, I'm actually drivong myself crazy over here.

Just for info. I have a lower chance combined result, but its just outside of high risk. 1 in 183. I'm 39. Hence I think I should get NIPT privately. Consultant told me to save my money... he said if Combined is low then nipt will be. He said I'm looking at 95% accuracy against 99%. That's all well and good but my result isn't exactly much lower than the cut off point for further testing. And I'm going out of my mind. Sorry for the spiel.

Thanks in advance x

Yes they used to offer this across Leeds hospital trust. They were trialling it to see if it was worth rolling out, but it stopped in 2021. I had it privately at Jimmy’s in March 2020. I was under the recurrent miscarriage clinic and when I mentioned I was looking at the NIPT I was told I could have it done there on a private basis. It wasn’t offered because I’d had a high risk result (I didn’t have the triple screening as I was having the NIPT and my consultant advised me that as the NIPT was more accurate not to do both) or because I was under the recurrent miscarriage clinic, it was something that anyone could request at the time.

When I asked in my recent pregnancy this year I was told they do it any more (the trial wasn’t cost effective) and they advised me to go to This is My on water lane.

I did. I was happy with the service and it was accurate, although more expensive that I’d paid previously (think it was around 350/400 whereas the one at the hospital was £275 as I didn’t have to pay for the pre blood test scan). I’m not having any more pregnancies but if I was I would use thisismy again. I think I opted for the Iona as this was the one that the Leeds hospitals used.

I was almost 39 and almost 42 when I had my babies, so the peace of mind a 99% accurate NIPT brought me was worth the price to me.

Thanks so much for your reply and providing clarity on the trial situ.

I'm looking at this is my it does say from £250 so I'm going to call and ask what it entails. (Perhaps the costing is due to gestation?) I don't know. But I've just had my anatomy scan at 18 weeks so I don't feel I need the pre bloods scan either.

Baby is now wriggling around and I'm feeling... I don't know, very... you know, sad that I'm feeling how I do.

I bleed very heavy two weeks ago and was so worried I was losing baby and now here I am wanting extra testing. I just can't shake my worries.

From memory the scan isn’t optional, even when I had the NIPT at Jimmys under the trial I also had to have a scan immediately before the blood test (my consultant did the scan at the miscarriage clinic even though I had literally been scanned there 2 days before). They have to confirm everything is ok before the blood draw. It might have changed since January but be prepared that it could be mandatory.

There are of course lots of chargeable extras - videos, pen drive, extra pictures etc. I also found out the sex but that was included as standard with the test I opted for.

We wanted every possible assurance with our history. I hope it helps to reassure you too, pregnancy can be scary! X

I didn’t relax until baby was in my arms - although it definitely helps a bit when you can feel them kicking away x
