Hi

Firstly I'm sorry you're going through this stress and worry, it's awful.

I had a NT of 8mm, and was asked to come back two days later for a consultant to check before I was referred to fetal medicine. At that consultant appt I asked if the measurement changed and he said they wouldn't measure it again, the fact that it was high at the first scan was enough. I also asked if they could see the nasal bone but they said that's not something they check in our area.

I am fairly sure the NT measurement can only be taken between 11 weeks and 13 weeks 6 days - after that, the tissue gets thicker and is no longer translucent, so test results become inconclusive. This could explain why the measurement has gone down.

It looks like your risk result is from the NT alone as the blood results look normal. For down syndrome you would expect low pappA (0.4 or below) and high HCG, which you have neither of.
I had 4.7mm NT at 12 weeks and 3.5mm at 13weeks, but unfortunately it wasn't a good outcome (my risk rating was "greater than 1 in 2 though", due to bloods too).

Really really hope all goes to plan, fingers crossed, your bloods look fine as I said so there is definitely hope xxxxxxx

I agree with the above - your blood results look normal. I’m afraid it will be age related too that will put your risk factor up. I think some people find it helpful to look at the chance that you don’t have it with your kind of score - so 27 in 28 wouldn’t have it… not sure if that helps, it’s a horrible horrible time going through tests and I hope you get good results x

I had NT measurement of 4.8mm and my son did not have DS or any heart defects etc.

It's a very stressful time I remember feeling numb

User69611 thank you for your kind words, and ok i didnt realise thats how it works regarding blood results and that pappa is usually low for DS, that gives me a little hope but its been the longest weekend ever! Roll on tomorrow, and im sorry your outcome wasnt what you wanted x

CB1209 thank you, thats reassuring to hear ny blood results look normal, but i know if the CVS is clear it could be underlying issues todo with the heart or something else its scary, even then if the CVS is clear il be worrying about the 16 week heart scan its the unknown thank you for your words x

Hi there, I’m afraid it wasn’t good for me. The NIPT came back high risk for Edwards and we had a termination. We had two agonising weeks to wait between 12 week scan and the fetal medicine appt, i can remember the feeling of limbo so well.

At the time I wondered if it would ever stop hurting so much but I’m three weeks down the line now and feeling a lot better. Still so sorry this has happened to us but not quite so upset x

Hi, just bumping this thread.

I had a clear NIPT at 10 weeks and a 3.8mm NT reading at 12 weeks 4 days which caught me off guard. This is a multiple pregnancy and the other twin had a 1.9mm NT.

Declined CVS pre 16 weeks due to mc risk to other twin. Amino is now an option (am 18 weeks) whilst waiting for foetal cardiac scans next week. Amnio is still a risk to the other twin. Selective reduction (twin version of TFMR) has also been discussed with me.

Just here for two-way support and advice.

• Am I naive to think that everything might be ok due to my harmony test?

• Should I risk the other twin and have conclusive diagnostic testing (amniocentesis) on the one with the increased measurement?

Sending love to those going though or having gone through similar.

@IDTM If it helps, I was pregnant with my second in the US and the standard care there is to do the NIPT (I had Panorama) at 10-12 weeks and during the scan they don’t even measure the NT, because it’s not seen as necessary because the NIPT is the most accurate screening there is (obviously it’s still not a diagnostic test). I don’t know how relevant that is to your situation and hopefully you’re seeing fetal medicine who can advise better than I can but maybe there’s some reassurance there.

@InTheRainOnATrain Thank you, that is really helpful. I’ve also heard in other countries that the NT measurement cut off is 4mm. Feel like I’m clutching at straws for reassurance at the moment!

IDTM · 09/11/2023 17:57

@MrsScotland Thank you for sharing that. We didn’t get any guidance on the limitations. I think we might have to have the amniocentesis but I’m really reluctant due to the risks.
