HYDROPS

Hello all, i went for my 12 week scan and showed a high NT (4.9mm) but all structure of baby okay in regards to growth, nose bone, arms, legs, head etc. But because of high NT they took my bloods which come back 1 in 2 for downs and then referred me for a CVS in london which they confirmed high NT and fluid on chest exact words were; generalised skin oedema and fluid in the fetal chest (hydrops). We suspect a cardiac anomaly but the small size of the baby limits the ability to diagnose this for certain. I’ve only just turned 24 years old and this just doesn’t seem right to me nor fair due to my luck the last few years. We were blessed with good news from the CVS and all 3 main chromosomal abnormalities come back fine, no downs, no edwards or pataus. However, i am so worried about this hydrops. The specialists in london and my local midwife/sonography’s have just seemed to mention everything about the chromosomal abnormalities but haven’t said anything to me about these hydrops, what it is, what it could mean. I just saw them in my notes. I’ve been doing loads of research over the weekend and doesn’t help it’s a bank holiday and can’t speak to them until tuesday. I just wondered if anyone had any advice, had anything similar and it’s all very grey at the moment and they seem quite negative initially but when i told my local hospital about my london cvs results they cried to me of happiness. I just want to hold some hope as really don’t want to loose the baby. Thanks

Hey op,

I'm afraid that I don't have any insight on this specifically (I have unfortunately had experience of other types of chromosome abnormalities during pregnancy) but have you tried speaking to ARC (Antenatal Results and Choices)? - they are good at helping you make sense of test results during pregnancy. Probably not a substitute for speaking to the doctors / your midwife when you're able to, but they might be helpful as a secondary source of advice / support.

All the best x

Hi,

I'm currently going through something similar. Could you please provide an update on you and baby? Hoping everything worked out for you. Thank you
