20 week scan heart abnormality

I had a follow up scan today at 22w as they couldn't get a clear picture of baby's heart at the 20w scan. She couldn't get a clear picture of the baby's 4 heart chambers so I'm being referred to a foetal heart specialist.
Has anyone else experienced this? What could be wrong?

I'm feeling sad and anxious. I was just starting to enjoy my pregnancy after IVF stress and early bleeding and now this morning 😥

Hello

Yes same thing happened to me. Referred to feotal medicine and had weekly scans until my baby was born. A number of heart issues found.

They have had open heart surgery but is a very normal healthy child now. Regular check ups and occasional key hole surgeries. May need more open heart surgery.

You'll be in shock/limbo right now. But I did find the NHS very supportive when I went through this and find them brilliant with this kind of thing now

Initially like you- we couldn't see the 4 Chambers. And it turned out DC has 3 full sized ones and one smaller one

But still- they can't get a clear picture it could be nothing!!!! It's best to wait and see

Also with all kind intentions there really isn't a standard one size fits all when it comes to congenital heart conditions so all us in that community can do is reassure you IF you face it you WILL be supported regardless the path taken

Thank you for your reply, I'm glad your child is doing well. You're right, I'm going to try to stay positive and optimistic until I know more.

Hello!

I know this thread is a few months old but I wondered what the outcome was following your referral to fetal medicine Lolla? We’ve just had our 20 week scan and are in a similar position.

Thank you

Hello,

Sadly, my baby Rowan had many complex heart defects, and we had to terminate the pregnancy at 24 weeks. He was born sleeping on St Patrick's Day. If he had made it full term, he would have died shortly after birth in a lot of pain.

I'm hoping your baby's heart is OK or that they can fix it after birth. Rowan's case was severe and unusual so please don't let our tragedy scare you.

Arc charity are excellent at going through results and options with you. Please message me if I can do anything to help xx

Thank you so much for replying and I am so incredibly sorry for the loss of your son.

we have an appointment with the fetal medicine team on Wednesday morning; I’ll have a look at Arc in the meantime as the googling is definitely not doing me any good at all xx
