Possible pre-eclampsia?

Hi everyone I am just home from my 38 week appointment I am getting Induced in 6 days time due to GD biggish baby and I've been told today that my BP that has always been on the slightly higher side than normal - 125-135/80 was 139/85 (the cut off for high blood pressure is 140/90)again she said it was normal but high normal and I also had a protein trace. Now I'm terrified in suddenly developing pre-eclampsia and somethings gonna happen to me or baby between now and Sunday. She wasn't concerned she said a "trace" is nothing to worry about she done all the usual checks Doppler was fine she said heart rate was perfect. Has anyone else has this? Feel like I'm just gonna be a ball of anxiety from now till Sunday.

I had trace protein during the last few weeks of pregnancy (no high bp though) and the midwife wasn’t concerned either. She said it can happen in many pregnancies.

i got the Siemens urine strips that all midwives use and I’m testing myself from time to time at home, 2nd pregnancy now.

you can do the same to keep an eye on it and see if it becomes more than a trace. And also get a blood pressure machine.

otherwise check what other symptom are for pre eclampsia (headaches etc)

You don’t need to worry at all as long as you keep these under observation.

Thank you for your reply. Sooner Sunday comes the better that's my induction date.
She said there were "no signs of fetal distress" she done the Doppler check so I'm trying to stay calm I do have a bit of white coat syndrome so that's probably not helping either.
I asked her if I should do the sticks from now till Sunday and she said
No as wasn't overly concerned but I think I'm overthinking it as well it's my rainbow and it's been pretty plain sailing till now

Btw to make sure I read the strips correctly, I take pics of the strips at 30, 40, 45, 60 and 120 sec, next to my phone that shows the timer. This way I don’t second guess myself, see the results exactly as they were next to the time interval they were taken at and have proof if I need to go to the midwife with smtg concerning.

when I started the time went so fast I didn’t know if I read correctly, misinterpreted smtg etc, as the colour changes over time.

My BP was above the 140/90 cut off for the last several weeks of my pregnancy, along with a constant trace of protein.

The point at which they admitted me for early delivery my BP had reached 200/150 and even then they monitored me for a few days before doing anything.

The midwife is a professional, she won’t be risking you or your baby and, from my experience, you’ll be fine between now and the weekend.

good luck with everything!

Thank you for your reply I'm just gonna take it easy rest as much as possible between now and then it's just so scary especially when you read so many horror stories aswell. Do you have to deliver early due to this?

The high BP and the protein trace I wouldn't be happy to be left. In fact our hospital wouldn't have let us leave.

I had my twins 9 weeks ago and I had high BP once not massively high and no protein trace and they wanted to make sure I didn't have PE then.

I think you should phone the hospital and asked to speak to someone as you're 38 weeks now anyway they might want to induce you early.

I'm booked in on Sunday for the induction. She said she wasn't concerned as the trace of protein can be anything discharge ect... I don't know what's best surly is she was worried she wouldn't of let me leave? She just told me to look out and phone if I get other symtoms vision problems or swelling ect... do you think I shouldn't leave it? I'm totally full of anxiety as it is.

That blood pressure is within normal limits, and comparing it to what it usually is is only very very (barely) marginally raised. Maybe see if your GP/practice nurse can check your blood pressure Friday to put your mind at ease. In the meantime look out for any reduced movements, headaches or visual changes

PinkButtercups · 06/02/2023 15:50

If you feel you want to get checked go get checked or ask for daily CTG's until induction. Sorry I didn't mean to worry you! I was just saying what I'd do but then I'm an anxious person anyway and pregnancy gets me even more anxious!

If you want daily CTG's from my experience you can request them especially if you're slightly on the anxious side. Obviously they wouldn't give you them 24/7 but I don't see why they wouldn't until your induction day on Sunday.

I had to have CTG's for a week daily before my in fact with the twins due to me having RFM. They weren't actually reduced but they wanted me in nightly for an hour for a week x

As you’re borderline with BP and inconclusive with the protein trace, think you either check these 2 yourself daily or you go to the assessment unit daily to check. It only takes them 5 minutes so it’s not a big bother. Try to rest before being seen, if you have to do a lot of walking beforehand, as his will raise your BP.

And don’t be concerned about bothering them.

Nobody can tell you if this won’t escalate or not, it could go either way.

But you don’t want to go into actual preeclampsia if you can avoid it, not even for a few days, as it gives you risks not only for now, for you and baby, but for yourself later in life, several times increased chances of having heart issues in 10 years time or later, for ex.

She didn't say I was to be checked like she didn't give me sticks ect she just said if I get symtoms like vision issues or bad headaches to phone them but other than that I'll be good to go on Sunday? Is that bad.

CristinaNov182 · 06/02/2023 17:16

It’s probably not bad and based on her experience the midwife doesn’t expect it to escalate.

but on the small chance that it might, (and it might escalate slightly, still preeclampsia but without getting so bad that you get headaches or vision problems), I would at least go and have it checked by them until Sunday, even if not daily. So it depends on your anxiety levels.

CristinaNov182 · 06/02/2023 17:20

You can always call that you’re concerned, they will see you.

I went twice without even calling and they saw me fast, there were only 1-2 women there also being checked. They told me to call if I can in advance, and they would have seen me anyway, even if I had no other good reason that I was concerned about something.

im only 10 minutes away by car and frankly if I get worried again about anything I will still just show up and explain, without calling.
