Can anyone interpret these results from 1:484

Hi,
I'm 36 and currently 13 weeks pregnant with my first child. My DS screening results have come back as 1 in 484. I called the hospital and they've told me the individual measurements are:
NT 1.7mm
HCG 2.8
Papp A 0.8924

She has said that apart from my slightly above average HcG, the others are average measurements and the result is most likely down to my age which taken alone would be a 1 in 255 chance. I asked her if one measurement was weighted more heavily and she said no.

I would seriously struggle to afford the NIPT test but I am so anxious already and this is adding more anxiety to the point I can't sleep.
Can anyone shed any more light?
Thank you x

I don't know much about this but I'm going to add my comments anyway. I hope it's all correct as I've been through this recently and this is just what I understand of it all..

Anything above 3.5 for NT is a marker for DS or other conditions. NT is the gap behind the babies neck on the scan. This gap is caused by excess fluid which DS, as many babies with DS have heart issues which cause excess fluid.

The HCG, average is 1. So you are above average there. Mine was a similar value but I haven't managed to find any info on what value triggers a cause for concern.

PAPP-A average is 1, So you are slightly below average. I think anything below 0.4 is a cause for concern (or it might be 0.5 I can never remember which one. Either way you are below average but not worrying low).

These things; along with your age give you a risk factor which yours is 1:484 meaning for every 484 babies with these measurements then 1 would have DS. Or 0.2% chance of your baby having DS.

DS risk gets bigger the older you are. So just by your age alone your risk would be 1:255 (at 37 it's 1:199) but combined with the NT, HCG and PAPP-A measurements it has gone down to 1:484 (which means even lower risk for DS).

The NHS (at least my trust) classes anything above 1:150 as high risk. This is what I got and they offered me the NIPT on the NHS. This came back as low risk and it's not been mentioned again.

If the NHS thought it was high risk then I assume they would offer NIPT, or even amino/CVS. Since they aren't offering this then you should see this as a good thing.

You have 3 options:

1- trust that 1:484 is relatively low. That's not to say 100% no DS, but a 0.2% chance (I hope my maths is right!).

2 - speak to your midwife for reassurance. If it's effecting you a lot then they may even offer NIPT but I wouldn't count on it.

3 - find the money for the NIPT to be done privately. I think it's about £500 but if it's making you anxious to the point it's disturbing your sleep then it might be worth it.

When my results were 1:150 my midwife said she would be very shocked if the baby had DS, and your results and more low risk than mine so I hope that might reassure you

I had 1 in 84 and had cvs my son was born healthy. That is a very low chance. Try not to worry (easier said than done)
