Hi everyone. Currently 14 weeks pregnant. At my 12 weeks scan had blood test done for down syndrome etc. Unfortunately test back with increased risk for down syndrome 1 in 148. I had elevated bhcg 2.31 MoM, Nt- 2.4 and PAPP-A- 0.7 MoM. I'm 34 years old. Just had done my NIPT test at Monday and waiting for the results. Did anyone had similar results but the baby was absolutely fine ? I'm so stressed that I think I searched all Internet for days just to find a little bit of hope. I know I'm very hormonal. My PMS normally hits me 2 weeks before period and it feels like very hard work, so maybe that is the reason for increased bhcg. I have completely healthy 5 year old boy. I was very sick while pregnant with him but I don't really remember bhcg levels just remember all results was low risk. Can anyone share their story with bhcg and PAPP-A, please 🙏?

Hi OP,

I hope your doing ok, its a very stresful thing to happen. I was a nervous wreck.
My results were 1 in 110 chance of the baby having down syndrome. I was only 25 so completely unexpected as I naively thought I was too young to really be worried.
Nipt results came through within about a week I think and my dd is totally healthy.

We spoke to a lot of people in the hopsital and got a lot of information before we knew the results and I
think talking it through helped.

Take care x

I was 36 when pregnant with my first (10 years ago) and came back as 1 in 150 for risk. I can't remember all my figures but my Papp a was lower than yours and around 0.25. Google is not your friend as all I did was panic about my placenta. I had an amniocentesis which wasn't pleasant but it came back fine and baby was born perfectly healthy 10 days over my due date.

From the amount of research that I did at the time, I found that some hospitals wouldn't class 1 in 150 as higher risk and a lower number (such as 1 in 100) would be used.
I feel for you though. All I did was worry and stress. With my second I refused the blood tests and just went straight for a nipt (had to pay privately but worth it).

Good luck.

I had 1:150 at 37 years old with my first. Nipt came back low and she’s fine.

42 now, 1:77, nipt came back low again.

I know it’s hard not to stress but you’ve done the nipt and will get the results soon, try to keep yourself busy until then.

Thank you for ypur message. That's great ypur NIPT is low risk again. Do you know what you are having this time, boy or girl? I read that a lot of pregnancies with female fetus causing weird results as bhcg is slightly higher. I got my results today and is low risk. Such a relief, hope everything will go smooth for both of us 😉 xx

@Kazet so happy for you, congrats. It must be a big relief.

I’m having a second girl and yes I’ve read the higher hCG could be from that, though with my first I think it was just above 1.

Let’s hope it’s all smooth sailing from now on x

So glad everything is ok, interesting about the female fetus as I also had a girl.
Try to relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy now 😊 x
