Hi. I got a private 16 week scan to find out the gender. It was a very quick scan and i didnt ask any questions. Im now obsessing over the photos due to the hand is this normal? Should i contact my hospital to do a scan and check for abnormalities

Thanks everyone. Appreciate the feedback. My mind is much more at ease now and i know theres nothing to worry about. Scans on my previous pregnancy and my friends didn't have distortion so i didn't know that could happen. It was just a normal gender scan i went for but they've started doing 4d scans as part of the package so i just wasn't expecting it. Thanks again

I wouldn’t. I had something similar happen after a 16 week gender scan and when I got home and looked through my pics it looked like my baby’s legs were on back to front!! I rang them freaking out! They got the lady who scanned me to talk to me and she said she seen no issues what so ever and scans often don’t look good! Since then they have put on their website if you notice anything out of the ordinary once your home looking at your pics that you should not worry unless you were told other wise at the scan

You specifically mention the hands and the reason is simply because they got cut off at that specific point of the scan. My understanding of how it works is that they use regular ultrasound to bounce signals off the surface and these get calculated into a 3 dimensional shape. This is obviously not accurate since any movement distorts the sound waves.

They will be focusing on the face so things like hands are essentially out of focus or out of range of the area being scanned. That's why they end up looking so odd and I had several 3D scans where the hands are also incomplete. Baby was perfectly fine of course. It's actually a really good scan of the face at that gestation! Better than any pic I got throughout the entire pregnancy!

I don’t think these scans should be allowed to take place unless a full debriefing is given afterwards.

I also don’t understand what the attraction of having a 4d scan is.

Just had my 20 week. The sonographer pointed out all healthy limbs were visible and where they should be. One of my prints caught the legs at a funny angle and I'm now convinced it looks like they're conjoined Hmm Which I know is irrational. It's normal to overthink these things.
