Uncertain viability

Hi everyone, feeling so worried and uncertain and would love some advice. First pregnancy, just had my 12w scan and the sonographer said uncertain viability and booked me for another scan in 1 week. There was a gestational sac and a yolk sac and a 2mm embryo but too small to detect a heartbeat even with a vaginal scan. That size is consistent with 4-6 weeks apparently which doesn’t line up with dates at all. Based on first day of my last period (7 Dec) I should be 12 + 4, but I thought it was more like 10 weeks based on what I thought was date of conception. I sometimes have long cycles but I think the latest poss day we could have conceived is 10th Jan which would mean 9w now. I had a negative blood and urine test on 18th Jan and my positive home tests were on 27th Jan. Trying to figure out how much hope is realistic. Also what do I do with myself for the next week??

Oh and I meant to say, also super confusing because I’ve had more symptoms this last 10 days (mild nausea, tiredness, lots of reflux) but I guess symptoms can continue even if you’ve had a MMC?

It does sound like it could be a missed miscarriage I'm afraid. My first one was detected at a scan at 11 weeks. I too had had some symptoms like mild nausea, bloating and tender breasts. Cruelly symptoms can continue despite the pregnancy not being viable. I was 100% sure of my dates so had another scan the next day to confirm and then had an operation to remove the pregnancy. Sorry you're going through this, I know how disappointing and heartbreaking it is.

Thank you so much. I think I’ve got to wait for the scan next week just because of the very slim chance it’s super early but I’m pretty sure it’s a mmc. I’m really frightened about what will happen this week - if I start bleeding and cramping etc. I’m going to be staying with family as there will be some building work happening at home - how should I prepare? Do I need to take lots of pads and painkillers with me?

Yes, pads and painkillers are a good shout. I didn't bleed much after my d&c but other miscarriages I've had have been like very heavy periods with cramping. Just to warn you, I found it incredibly upsetting seeing the blood when I began bleeding, it really cemented that things were over and I just cried and cried. I hope you have lots of loving support, make sure you lean on everyone around you and let them comfort and support you.
