Hi Everyone, has anyone experienced a small femur and humerus at the 20 week scan? I've already had a nightmare of a pregnancy with a high nuchal translucency at the 12 week scan. had a CVS and all came back clear. Hoping for reassurance at the 20 week scan and found out the baby is in the 3rd percentile for femur and humerus x

One of mine measured short though I can't remember what centile it was exactly. The sonographer said not to be concerned as I am short myself, and so are almost all my family. What height are you?

Amy182 · 24/12/2021 20:11

I'm 5'5 and my husband is 6'1 so not exactly short! Sorry we were in the 4th percentile... not the 3rd. Not sure if it makes any difference xx

Yes, we had this with DD, and there was mention of various things that could be the reason - but in the end she turned out just to be petite, and still is, despite DH and I being tall. We did have the NIPTY blood test to give us a more detailed risk analysis which we found helpful.

My babies femur was below the 3rd percentile at 20 weeks and continued to be for the rest of my pregnancy. I had multiple growth scans/Doppler scans and ended up being consultant led because of it. Head and abdominal were always around 40th percentile.

The outcome for me was just a small baby, she was 4lb8 when she was born but perfectly healthy. She’s 6 months old now.

I spent my whole pregnancy worrying about it so I’m sorry you are going through the same!

SlowBoiledFrog · 24/12/2021 20:22

One of mine had the same. She is stumpy of leg and long of body like her mam.

Amy182 · 24/12/2021 21:28

Ah yes I'm hoping this will be the same for us. We did the Harmony scan after the 12 week scare and all came back clear but I'm not sure what they look for exactly apart from the 3 trisonomys xx

Thank you! Fingers crossed. My daughter was a 5lb baby but we never had any scares with her during the pregnancy xx

I’ve posted this on other threads, but DS had a massive head and short legs on his scans, and when he was born…. he turned out to have a massive head and relatively short legs. Like me and DH. Nothing wrong with him, just what he looks like.

He’s 5 now and still in size 8-10 hats, and only 9th centile for height and weight. Perfectly healthy though.

Same as above. Toddler had big head measurement and small femur - he's fine! Just big head and small legs Grin (not abnormally so, you wouldn't notice for looking, don't worry!)

SittingOvation · 24/12/2021 21:50

Mine had a tiny femur at 20 weeks. The 3rd tri scan showed she was IUGR which meant that she hadn't been growing so I was induced at 37 weeks.

She's now 8 months old and has been on the 3rd percentile since birth. They never found a reason for it. We think she's perfect and she doesn't seem that small to us!

Thank you all... lots of reassuring stories! I'm back at kings fetal centre next week so they will have a proper look! My first pregnancy was such a breeze and this one has been nothing but stress! I'm hoping it's just a small baby like most of yours have turned out to be and nothing wrong health wise! xx

I think if you first baby was tiny it gives you some reassurance that it may just be the same case again. Although I know that has some worries at times as well.

I didn’t end up getting my 12 week screening as she couldn’t get her in the right position so I ended up with a harmony as well so I’m not sure if anything would have been raised at that point.

I found the fetal centre really reassuring, although they confirmed the femur was small they were quite confident that they didn’t think it was anything other than a small baby so I hopefully that will help out your mind at rest.

Amy182 · 27/12/2021 22:18

Ah thank you! The only thing with baby number 1 was that she was 5 weeks early which is why she was tiny and no concerns with measurements throughout the pregnancy xxx

Hi OP, just wondering if you have any further update ? I'm in the same position scanner by consultant at 24 weeks and will have another at 30 weeks. Have another similar thread. Still googling like crazy and trying not to stress but it's very difficult
