Struggling with Pelvic Girdle in Pregnancy

Hello everyone

I'm 24w pregnant and really struggling with Pelvic Girdle pain. I already mentioned it to my midwife but she hasn't been really useful. I can't sleep at night, constantly turning side by side due to pain on my hips! I can't sleep on my back because it's not safe for the baby.
I also tried to put a pillow between the knees but it add more pressure on the lower hip so it's not helpful either.
Bought a top-up mattress, used an extra soft pillow underneath but nothing :-(

Does anyone have any other solutions? As I said the typical pregnancy pillows I see advertised everywhere are not good for hips.

Cheers

Hello, you need the long pillow, the one that fits not just between the knees but also between the ankles. That will straighten your hips.

Hope it gets better soon. Its horrible:(

I’d have a look at gentle stretches that you can do daily (my midwife recommended getting into table top position and do cat/cow & also child’s pose, of course positioning your legs to fit your bump) and also have a look into pregnancy yoga classes. Another tip my midwife suggested was to get some supportive underwear (like Spanx) and cut the front- this will help support your lower back. I hope you get on okay x

Can you self-refer to physio? I had a lot of pelvic pain with DD1 and was seen by physio pretty quickly. As the ligaments softened and moved it caused misalignment, I effectively had one leg longer than the other. I got a big elastic belt to put on under my bump. Really helped.

Last night I was in terrible pain, couldn't walk at all! NHS physio is by phone only at the moment and not really helpful....

Which painkiller did you take to relief some of the pain?

Hey, I had terrible PGP with both pregnancies. First one out of lockdown saw the physio ect. Second one in lockdown not much support at all. Firstly speak to GP, they can and should refer you. I had a long pillow, it’s over 6ft, it really helped support me, on the sofa, in bed ect. Also great for breastfeeding (I felt it was a waste paying lots of money for 12 weeks, wish I had got it sooner)
I found the triggers, main one was walking on concrete. When we could i did my lockdown walking on the beach, this really helped.

This website has lots of information, how to get into bed, cars, walk up the stairs ect. pelvicpartnership.org.uk/practical-suggestions/

Sorry I didn’t see your update regarding physio being on the phone only, can you pay to go privately at all?

I also got one of these that really helped as my posture was terrible

I got this belt instead from the NHS physio, it does help a bit especially when I'm out & about walking
