Hey, is there anyone on here who has had a heart condition (which can be repaired at birth) diagnosed at 20 weeks. I feel hopeful but also it is a worrying time and I wondered if anyone was in a similar position or had experienced this. I suppose I just need some support. Thank you :) x

Hi op my dd (now 18!) was born with tetralogy of fallots. They didn’t spot it in scans but she was diagnosed at days old. She had to have 3 sets of open heart surgery but she is absolutely fine now! She gets a little out of breath at times and may need a future operation but has a normal life span and is the typical teenager; hates her mum, thinks she “secretly” smokes, has unsuitable boyfriends and generally gives me 101 reasons lie awake at night worrying about her just like your average teenager! The cardio teams around babies are absolutely top notch, your baby really will be in the best possible hands. Of course the ideal would be that your baby was born without any cardiac issues but it’s sadly more common than you think. I hope everything goes smoothly Flowers

I'm sure you'll find the whole team at Leicester absolutely brilliant - we certainly have over the last six years. News like you've had is bound to feel overwhelming, but take your time to learn more about the condition, its treatment, what will happen when your baby is born, etc. Slowly, you'll feel more informed and less overwhelmed, although nothing can take away all the stress and worry.
