Results - your experience

Hello!

Had my blood test result from the dating scan and it showed

Chance of DS 1 in 2900
Chance of Edward or Pataus 1 in 100000

Is this normal to have the two results so far from each other? The NT was 2.1.

What have been your experiences?

Hi

My original quad result was 1:95 for Down syndrome.

My NIPT results were
1:100000 for DS
1:100000 for Edwards
1:5 for Patau

Just waiting for results after my amino. Have everything crossed that my little baby will be okay xx

@Hadd9 I have everything crossed for you! Sending all my love and positives vibes. ❤️

@Dan3i I think this is quite common as the markers for the 3 trisomies are not all exactly the same. For example, a marker for Down syndrome is high hcg and for Edwards and Patau it's low hcg. So if someone's hcg was on the higher side, that could reduce their calculated risk of their baby having Edwards or Patau syndromes but increase their calculated risk of having a baby with Down Syndrome.

I had 1 in 13 chance for downs syndrome and 1 in 13, 000 chance for Edwards and plateaus!! The screening midwife told me it's very normal to have two widely apart scores as the hormone levels are generally different in each abnormality.

Yes that is true but for Down's syndrome it's normally high hcg and low Papp-a combined. I'm not exactly sure what the markers are for the other two. But your results look fine. It varies from woman to woman high hcg may also be normal for your pregnancy.

It is because the combined screen also takes into account your baseline risk before they've even looked at bloods etc. That's why risk increases with age, the baseline risk is higher if older. The incidence of T21 in pregnancy is higher than t13 or t18 so that's why usually that is the highest risk result even in an unaffected pregnancy.
It would statistically be more likely for any one women to have a pregnancy with DS than one of the other trisomies regardless of blood results. (Hope that makes sense!).
