Can you choose cervical CVS?

Due to a previous pregnancy affected by a genetic problem I've been recommended testing and am due to see the consultant about this on Wednesday. The problem is I'm terrified of needles, I have overcome it to the point where I can have the usual bloods and vaccinations done but the thought of the CVS/amnio needle makes me want to pass out! Will they let me have the CVS done cervically or do you just have to suck it up?

Oh god, no idea but from on needlephobe to another I hope so!

I think it will depend on where your placenta is. It is best to speak to your consultant about it. They could arrange a set up where you can't see a thing.

@GreenSlide, I’m not sure whether the test can be taken any other way but I just wanted to provide you some reassurance from one needlephobe to another. (I can’t even get a blood test without having my husband holding my hand!)

I had a CVS a few weeks ago and I explained to the consultant how I scared I was. They were so understanding and made sure that I didn’t see a single thing. Even before they had all the apparatus completely hidden. It was also done so quickly. All the thinking beforehand is worse than the procedure itself. I know it’s easier said than done but try not to work yourself up about it.

Please don’t feel like you have to suck anything up. I’d hope that you have been given all the information to understand why you will need to do it and I hope that will empower and comfort you.

@GreenSlide you might have to 'just suck it up'. I asked the same question when I had my CVS done and the first attempt failed due to my Bowles and bladder being in the way, so was hoping to go through the cervix. It's not a standard procedure in this country so they are very hesitant.
If you're worried about the needle, maybe ask for a screen to be put up so you don't have to see anything?
