NIPT test with high BMI

Hello everyone, I'm currently 8 weeks pregnant. Due to my age (nearly 44) and previous losses (5), I'm going for a private NIPT test. Additional complication is my high BMI (39) and I have read it may sometimes cause inconclusive results or they cannot test at all as there is not enough fetal DNA in mum's blood. I'm planning to do MaterniT Genome that can be done from 9 weeks, but will wait until 10+1, just in case. Is there anyone with a higher BMI and can share a positive experience (BMI was not a problem). Any NIPT. Thank you!

Hi OP. I had the NIPT Harmony test yesterday, but when I was having it the clinician mentioned that they often give the SAFE NIPT test for mums with a high BMI. So maybe worth looking into that option? It was at the Birth Company in London. Good luck.

I was going to go for NIPT and have a BMI of 37. They said to wait until at least 14+1 to get the best chance of a viable draw.

Thank you @PurpleFlower1983! I was recommended to try the SAFE test that apparently needs 2% of fetal DNA fraction whilst Harmony requires 4%. Apparently SAFE is a better choice for bigger mums. It does test a little less than Harmony, but covers the 3 major ones, so Down, Edwards and Patau.

@Wireless77 That’s good then! Sounds much better. I am just debating whether to have it but the NHS tests have come back low risk so I think we may not bother now.
