20 week scan - unilateral talipes

I've just had my follow up 20 week and they found unilateral talipes on the baby's left foot. I was sent to fetal medicine and they completed another scan and looked more indepth at the baby's brain and heart and they can't see anything further of concern on the scans bar the talipes but want to do another scan at 28 weeks to confirm.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation, any words of advice? We have been given information on treatment and understand we will speak to a physio in the next couple of days. At the minute whilst the treatment sounds intense I'm more concerned about other underlying genetic issues as I see it can be linked. We did get the early screaning which came back very low risk from the 12 week scan.

Hi there op. I have twins and my boy twin has bilateral talipes (both feet) and his twin sister was born with positional talipes. There was a lot of concern as twin 2 (boy) did have a few markers for chromosome abnormalities however he is nearly 4 now and both are doing amazing and neither has any health issues, simply isolated clubfoot. My advice is honestly don't worry which of course is a lot easier said than done. I think if there had been any other problems they would have been identified at the scans. Have a look at a Facebook group called Happy Feet Talipes and think about joining. I have got a lot of support and advice from there.

Also, it isn't in our family history either. It's one of those things that just happens Smile

My nearly 3 year old has bilateral talipes - no family history. It was spotted at a routine 20 week scan and confirmed by a scan with the fetal medicine unit. All indicators were that there were no other concerns with DS, but we did choose to have an amniocentesis, as the "what if" was a bit too much for me. Bear in mind that the data shows other conditions can tend to have talipes, rather than talipes being alongside other conditions, if that makes sense? The research I saw suggested around 80-90% of children are idiopathic. My amniocentesis was clear and DS is perfect Smile he just had wonky feet.

Second the recommendation for re Happy Feet group on Facebook, but be aware that people post there when treatment isn't going according to plan or there are complications.

Congratulations!

Thank you both! This is rather comforting to hear. We have joined the Facebook group and its nice to see all the stories of people at various stages of treatment. For now we will try not to think about the next scan and try to stay positive. For us it's also not something that runs in our family which added to the shock.

My step son has bilateral talipes. He's 5 now and just away to be signed off from treatment and he is absolutely perfect in every way Smile
