Hi I an looking for anyone who has been in a similar situation. I had my scan last week I was 13+3. I had a NT fold of 4.1mm and I have a 1 in 5 chance of baby having downs. I had a harmony test today and i am terrified.

@MrsP2015 it’s a blood test given by the NHS for those who are classed as high risk following the combination screening. This is usually taken at your dating scan.

MrsP2015 · 09/09/2020 20:03

@Sussexbysea thank you. Years ago I don't think nhs we're doing it as my friend came back as something like 1 in 8 and she was offered something to test the placenta fluid (I think) but there was a risk to the baby so she paid for the harmony about £400.

It's good the nhs offer it, I'd certainly go for it if I had another.

Are you managing to occupy yourself or is your mind only on this?
Hope your week goes really quick.

The NHS doesn't offer NIPT free for all trusts, even for high risk. I had to pay for mine (£300). I know some hospitals do though x

MrsP2015 · 09/09/2020 21:42

Thank you @JennyMY that makes sense now.

curliegirlie · 10/09/2020 09:18

@Scottishgirl89 so glad to hear the test came back clear.

@Sussexbysea good luck but try not to be too worried. Do have a read of the resources on www.downs-syndrome.org.uk/for-new-parents/being-pregnant/ and some of the stories on www.positiveaboutdownsyndrome.co.uk and
www.facebook.com/DownRightAmazing if you want to read into things a bit. Take care xxx

@Scottishgirl89 I am 👎🏻 Hoping it’ll be Monday but the likelihood is it’s going to be Tuesday

Scottishgirl89 · 12/09/2020 16:48

@Sussexbysea any news?

@Scottishgirl89 I got the result yesterday and I’m low risk. I’m so relived. It does make me feel terribly sad for those who aren’t so fortunate as us though.

Are you on any March threads? I’m on a great one if you want to join. They’re a chatty bunch though 😂

Scottishgirl89 · 16/09/2020 21:51

@Sussexbysea great news I'm so happy for you. Yeah I would love to join :)

@Bcky Hi, Down syndrome is caused by a baby having extra genetic material from chromosome 21 (trisomy 21). Thyroid hormone levels can't cause or treat this.

Thyroid function is associated with neurological development and it's definitely important to monitor it and treat abnormalities with it. And, people with Down Syndrome can be more at risk of thyroid problems. But maternal thyroid function doesn't cause or remove additional genetic material from a baby's chromosomes.
