Hi all, my first post. I have 2 sons age 10 and 5. We fell pregnant with our 3rd unexpectedly and to be honest were very uncertain, plus I've really struggled with morning sickness all day and I'm nearly 40. But on Weds we saw our baby on screen for the first time, and I smiled. But it was short lived, the NT was at over 10mm! We were referred to Addenbrookes for CVS yesterday and not looking good, fluid extends down back. We don't know what is wrong but having to look into surgical termination as I just can't go through delivery. It's so hard, I just want it to be ok. But I can't find any success stories with such high fluid. Any experiences? TIA x

It is so hard to know what to say to you, other than to say that I recognise what a tough place you are in right now. You are right that such findings are almost always indicative of a major issue for your baby. I am so sorry. I have known a couple of people who have had similar, nothing specific was identified through invasive tests and the pregnancies continued. In one case the baby appeared entirely normal at birth, the other baby had a number of fairly minor issues with the suspicion that something would probably be identified later in life. In many cases babies with this sort of fluid collection are not able to continue growing and I have known some who had already died in the few days it took for me to arrange a specialist review for them.
It sounds like you are being very realistic. Obviously you would wish for a happy ending, but frankly it is unlikely with the situation you describe.
Have you had any discussion with the team about arrangements for termination and the choice between surgical and medical?
Please do ask if there are things you want to know & I will do my best to answer
Sending love xx

Thank you. Yes I don't think there is much help. The hospital weren't talking termination yet, I brought it up as I know 10mm is really not good. They leaned to medical, I asked for surgical but I need them to refer me to BPAS. I just need a date in mind now but it has been so hard to sort. I wasn't even sure about the pregnancy til I saw the scan 😪 my husband is sad but still doesn't want another baby really so not sure we will get chance to try again. I just need to get this one to a conclusion at the moment 😪 xx
