Would you have further tests with these combined test results?

Hi guys,
I've had my combined test results back from my scan and bloods last week.

NT was 1.5mm
I'm 42 yrs old.
Estimate risks
Downs: 1:1093
Edwards/Patau: 1:699
Bhcg: 9.810 IU/l
PAPP-A: 1.520 IU/l

I don't know what I expected I knew my age would push the risks up but I was a bit shocked. I know the NT is ok and I know lots of people have much higher risks but I can't help feel worried especially about the Edwards/Patau result.

Should I be worried? Would you have a NIPT if these were your results?

I don't even what the bhcg and pappa-a should be.

What do you think?

It really depends on whether or not you'll worry about it and it will take away from your pregnancy. Both are low risk results so I really don't think you need to worry but that can be easier said than done.

I got 1:110 which was an actual high risk result and I had the harmony test. It came back low risk (less than 1:10,000 chance) and it's helped me relax, so it was money well spent for me.

I would be very happy with those results, OP! They are very firmly in the low risk category. I am 43 and waiting for my test results. I know the NT measurement was normal, similar to yours. If I get results like yours I will be very content. I think I had a 1 in 250 risk for Edward's or Patau's for my last pregnancy and I was fine with that too. I didn't worry about it. Remember, our ages will automatically put the statistical risk up, even with very good blood test results for the PAPP A and HCG. I think you would have had a call if either of the above were above or below normal. I had a call last time to say my PAPP A was slightly low, but nothing to worry about. Everything was fine!

Thank you both!

@Aria2015 I can imagine how worried you must have been getting a 1:110 risk. I'm glad for you that the harmony test came back with a much lower risk.

@Somethingsnappy I've got everything crossed for your results. Thank you for your reassurances. I guess I was thinking a low risk would be 1:10000 and so I was really freaked out by the 1:699!

This is my 5th baby tbh but first time I've ever had testing as I was much much younger when I had my others.

No I wouldn’t. 1:699 is only 0.14% chance so 99.86% chance of not having it and is actually pretty good when you compare it to the background risk of T13/18 in a 42 year old. I tried to find some numbers online for you and this paper quotes 1:79 based on age alone so you’re almost 10 times less likely than other women your age so I’d say that’s pretty good!

OP, I've had my results back now too! And funnily enough, they are remarkably similar to yours. 1 in 665 for Edwards and Patau's and 1 in 2995 for Down's. I am happy with these and personally won't be doing any further tests. The results are better than they would be based on age alone, so I think we're doing well Smile.
How are you feeling now?

passthemustard · 26/06/2020 16:37

@Somethingsnappy ahhh brilliant news, really happy for you! 😁😁

I'm feeling better about it thanks to you guys. I'm just really really tired lol.

What's your due date?

Somethingsnappy · 26/06/2020 16:55

My due date is New year's day! But because I'll need to have an elective C section, it will be much closer to Christmas day! When is yours?

passthemustard · 26/06/2020 17:35

Originally according to my dates (LMP and ovulation) and according to my first scan at 6+6 it was New Year’s Day. But after my dating scan last week they’ve brought it forward to 27th Dec. That’s 5 whole days earlier. Are the scans really that accurate because I know when I ovulated 🤷🏼‍♀️ 🤷🏼‍♀️

I had similar results and had Amniocentesis tests x 2
Personal choice of course
I took lots of informal advice from Doctors etc in the family/friendship group
All was fine x

Somethingsnappy · 27/06/2020 11:17

OP, I've had the exact same thing before! I've known without a shadow of a doubt when I ovulated, but the scans disagree. I've thought about it a lot, and the only conclusion I can come to, is wondering whether the date of implantation affects things. Because implantation can occur anytime from 6 to 12 days post ovulation, perhaps that could have an influence on the dating scan. What do you think? I've never seen or read anything about this, but I just can't seem to find any other explanation if we are absolutely sure of ovulation dates.

passthemustard · 27/06/2020 12:04

I have literally no idea. I mean they do this everyday and are highly trained so I don’t doubt them really - but it kind of doesn’t make sense. I did have an ‘early’ very strong positive test so maybe the scan is right and I have completely no idea about my body 😂😂

No I wouldn’t
