Further blood test after CVS?

Hi everyone, I’m new to this, just looking for some help! After having a 1:39 chance of our baby having Down syndrome I had the CVS last week. Got the initial results 2 days later and it was good news! Tbh I kind of forgot about the results of the further/complete CVS results. Yesterday I got a call asking for the father of my baby to go in for blood tests that they need for the complete CVS results.

Why would they need my partners blood? And should I be worried? Is it likely they’ve found something worrying? The dr wouldn’t tell me, he just kept saying let’s wait and see. And I can’t stop worrying/crying! Can’t bear waiting another two weeks to get the results :(

That does seem strange, I only had a cvs with the usual first result back after a week then the ‘full array results’ after 3 weeks.

I would go back to your Dr (who sounds annoying!) - or get the phone number/email address for one the screening midwives in the hospital you are dealing with, and ask exactly what the results of the full screen were, and if there was an anomaly, what they need his (your husbands) blood to test for.

Hope it’s all okay!

Sorry I’ve re read that as you only had it done last week - if your dr won’t give you the answer call the midwives! Or alternately you could try ARC!

When I had my CVS, they took a sample of my husband's blood as well which they said if the full screen came back with nothing, they would test to see if there was a likelihood of any genetic issues. Our full screen came back with a result so they discarded my husband's blood and didn't test it. I hope that helps x

Agree sounds a little strange -but tbh the most strange is that they havent explained why. There’s a few possible reasons as PP said- sometimes more testing if they haven’t found anything. But I would have thought that any genetic-related testing should be fully explained and your/your partner’s informed consent sought so I think you’re right to ask questions. Hope your results all come back ok.
