Heart issues at 20 week scan

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone else is or has been in the same position.
Unfortunately during my routine 20 week scan on Thursday the sonographer picked up a possible issue with my baby's heart. I wasn't expecting anything to be wrong having had no issues up til this point and a straightforward previous pregnancy. I have a medicinal scan booked on Monday with a consultant to investigate further but just wondering if anyone can make light of my report notes or offer any reassurances from your experiences? I know I should just wait til Monday but I'm not sleeping I'm so worried about it and just need some more information. Will my baby live? How serious is it? What might she have to go through if and when born Sad

@stanley10 thanks for your message. So sorry you went through the same as me as I know how much of a shock it is and how stressful it all is 😩 glad you have been able to come to terms with it and make a decision. It's really not an easy one but I think you're a wonderfully strong person and I wish you all the luck with your little one who will be so so loved no matter what ❤️
Still waiting on the amnio results here. Day 11 today so no idea if it will be this week or next but been trying not to overthink it til the results are in as it is wasn't doing me any good!
Sending love xxx

I called the hospital today just to see if they had any idea how much longer results would be, fully expecting to be fobbed off but the lovely midwife called the lab for me and got the results! All clear so at least we know what we are dealing with now. Thanks for the support everyone. Means so much and if anyone ever finds themselves in this position in future and comes across this post then please do feel like you can ask as many questions as you like as I know how awful the waiting is xxx

@TJ17 oh what amazing news!! It’s the best feeling in the world ❤️ I’m so pleased for you. Best of luck for the rest of your pregnancy and planning the care your little girl needs for her heart xxx

@TJ17 that’s amazing news. So happy for you. Xx

I realise I’m too late to this but I always recommend ARC when I see these sorts of threads: www.arc-uk.org/.
They were so fab/calm/non-judgemental/knowledgable when we had difficult decisions to make. As you said OP, that might be useful to others coming across this thread later. So pleased for you.

Hello all,

I know this is an old thread and I have just come across it. I was wondering how you (and children) are all doing?

I am 24 weeks pregnant and found out last week that our baby has pulmonary atresia with VSD. We are waiting for amniocentesis results as the condition can be linked to Digeorge syndrome.

It is so scary isn't it. I hope you are all doing well.

@Cantchoosename hi. My daughter is now 2, she’s doing great. She had some noisy breathing & had a sedated CT scan to check her heart to see if it was connected. They said she does not need surgery thankfully. She’s being seen at bham childrens hospital next week for a follow up. I hope the results are clear x

Hi @ivfmommy2b thanks for your message, it must have been a relief when you found out that surgery wasn't needed. I hope the check up goes well this week x

@Cantchoosename I am so sorry I never seen your message until now! (I took a little break from MN)
I understand I’m too late to offer any reassurance now but couldn’t read and run! 😥
My little girl is now 2 and she’s doing amazing! Anybody who knows about her heart always says you’d never know! She’s a normal, happy and feisty toddler 😄she means the world to me and more and she is worth all the worry and pain we went through.

I hope all went well with you and little one in the end?🙏

Hello @TJ17 , thanks so much for your message. It is so great to hear your little girl is well and happy! 💛

Our baby is now 7 months old. When they were born the diagnosis was changed to Tetralogy of Fallot. It has been a bit of a rollercoaster but they had the repair surgery at 4 months old and they are doing so well 🙏 It really is amazing how strong babies are, it felt like such a relief once the surgery was done even though it was super scary at the time.

So glad to hear it all went well with your LO! ToF is what my daughter has too. It’s been a tough old road and it’s taken a while but we are in a really good place at the moment now it’s all settled down a bit. I find check ups tough but the last few have been very positive and I find that although I’ll never be 100% relaxed, we can almost “forget” about it in between and just treat her like a normal child which is very comforting. It really does “get easier” as they always say.
Wishing you and LO all the best for the future ❤️

Check ups are a bit tough, I get a bit stressed about them too. Glad to hear the last few have gone well. Our last one was positive too. I finally feel things are settling down and we can enjoy being with our baby just doing normal everyday things. Wishing you and your daughter all the very best for the future too 💜
