GTT Dextrose Energy Tablets

My midwife booked me in for a mini glucose test this Thursday (at 28 weeks) and I'm feeling very uneasy about it. First of all, there is no history of diabetes in my family and I've never been overweight so I'm not sure why I've been asked to do it. But what really concerns me is that the instructions I've been given are to fast and then eat 17 dextrose energy tablets / add them to water an hour before doing the test. This seems like a very new way of testing (I can't find any info about whether this is safe online). Has anyone tested this way? I'm thinking of calling my midwife and declining this test..

Do you know the risks of gestational diabetes? It would be very foolish to risk missing it.

There have been changes to GTTs because they used to use energy drinks, like Lucozade, but these drinks are all reduced sugar now due to the fecking sugar tax. Dextrose tablets sound fine. They are just sugar. Why might it be unsafe?

Why not ask your midwife why they are testing you? There is likely a good reason. Hope it goes well, and you test negative for it.
