Help me understand nt results

Hey,

So we did our test. 12 weeks 5 days. 1.0mm measurement with 63mm crown to rump. Hcg was 4.707 and papp was 0.497

We were given 1:64 chance. My wife is very heart broken and I’m hoping to ease her stress as we have a week wait before we see a genetic specialist.

My understanding the hcg is okay for its range but the Papp is expected 0.5 or higher?

How much should we be worrying about the true liklihood if having a child with DS

I had something similar with my DD.
Nuchal was good, what brought it down was the blood test that took the risk from1;1200 to 1:49.
I did the amniocentesis - scared shit as I lost a boy to the amniocentesis - and everything was all right.
The OB then told me, in some women, the level of alpha fetoprotein give false positive.
So if your nuchal measurement was good (i can't remember mine, sorry) , don't panic.

That's a good NT measurement. Well within normal limits. My DC3 had downs. His NT was more than 5.

. I cannot stand the nhs nt test as they notoriously have scary results.

I went straight to private nipt instead. Within 7 days I got a much more accurate result.

I think but am not certain that nhs offer an nipt if the nt is a worrying stat but if they do not I would highly recommend it. In the meantime try not to worry as a high proportion are wrong.

Karigan195 · 31/05/2019 20:01

Oh and nipt is non invasive as well so does not carry the miscarriage risk

High proportion on nt stats are wrong that is. Sorry failing to human tonight!

Just wondering how it’s all going OP. Been thinking of you and your family and hoping it’s all ok

High proportion on nt stats are wrong

The statistics aren't 'wrong'. A 1/64 chance of Down's means that 63/64 pregnancies with that result won't have Down's. The result is expressed as a likelihood, not yes/ no.
