So on Friday I'm having the combined screening test, dating/Nuchal translucency scan and blood test.. and was just wondering if I can find out the baby's sex with the test? Has anyone else?

Our doctor was prepared to guess and was correct, but yours may not be. The NIPT can give you a 99% accurate result from 9 weeks.

Not on the nhs scan, no. You'd need a privately funded blood test for that.

At my 12 week scan (NHS) the sonographer asked if we wanted her to guess the sex and we said yes. She correctly guessed that baby was a boy. I suspect that it wasn't a guess and she got a clear view of his penis! I suppose it's difficult to be completely sure though as that's why she said she was guessing. And I don't think she would have offered to guess if she hadn't seen a penis, it's harder to be more confident that it's a girl because it could just be that the penis isn't visible.

You might be lucky and your sonographer might offer to guess like mine did, but if you want to be sure you'll have to pay for NIPT or wait for the 20 week scan.

If they do a CVS or Amnio you can find out - I have to CVS at 11 weeks every time I am pregnant and as they tell by chromosomes it's 100% accurate - I had a girl first then was pregnant with a boy but the CVS results were bad that time so had to have TFMR now I'm 8 weeks pregnant and will find out what this baby is and hope that they are ok!! At my 12 week scan the sonographer tried out the nub theory and was right!
