Hi all, I’m very new to becoming a mum and writing things on here ! I hope you can help me, I’m 27 years old and last week I went for my 20 week scan, (I was 20 weeks 6 days in day of scan) I was referred to fetal medicine consultant as it appeared my baby has a double collective kidney and is a little on the small side, when I was seen by fetal medicine they picked up the double collective kidney, also said baby has a echogenic bowel and baby’s head is small- she asked me if I wanted the Amnio test done to check for Down’s syndrome and any other genetic disorders, I have a few days to decide if I want that done... she also took my bloods to test for any viral infections. She literally put the fear of god in me and I still can’t get my head round what it all means after doing loads of research, I’m xurrently waiting for a call back from my midwife to explain things clearly as when I was told Monday all I did was cry and nothing was sinking in. I have to go back in 3 weeks for results of my bloods and another growth scan. Can anyone shed some light ? Sorry to waffle on 🙈 xx

Sorry I only have experience of a duplex kidney. DS had a duplex one side, he was operated on at 6/7, duplex part removed. He was in hospital for about a week (was intended as laparoscopic but converted to open surgery during the op). He's 23 now and has had absolutely no problems from it at any point.

Thank you for your reply... oh bless, it’s all a massive worry isn’t it when you get told things like this! Glad your boys operation went well and his leading a healthy life.

I have experienced of echogenic bowel, it was an infection, a virus in mother and baby. I can’t remember what it was called. Everything turned out well.

DS2 has bilateral (both sides) duplex kidneys. He had extra tests at birth and an op at 6m. He has some continence issues but nothing too worrying.

I hope it all turns out ok.
