Private scans

Just wanting to now peoples views on private scans.
I did have one at 17 weeks to find out gender, was too impatient. I was told the same gender at 20 weeks by NHS. Apparently having a girl, well I hope I am, there is quite a bit of pink in the house now.
I am now 37 weeks and suddenly have this fear there maybe something wrong or they told me the wrong gender. I feel like a scan would reassure me but not sure whether I should have it done or not?
What are people's views?? Is it too late for a scan, they say you still can? Or am I just being paranoid? I am a first time mum.

It gets much harder to get a clear view of the baby once you are late in pregnancy. That's why growth scans can be so unreliable at this stage. You're nearly there, not long to wait now! And I know what it's like - I had my first baby just over a year ago and paid for two private scans on top of the NHS ones Wink

You may find that you're now too late for another gender scan but you could always call up a private place and ask. We had loads of scans after 32 weeks due to foetal restricted growth and if they ever asked about the gender, we always said we've been told a girl but please do let us know if you suddenly spot a penis in the scan. We were told at 16 weeks it was a girl, and at 2o weeks and at each scan thereafter and DD is now asleep in her cot whilst I listen to her and the cat snoring away.

Thanks Smile my friend who is a midwife did look at my scan and before I told her said she could see a girl. So I'm taking that as a good sign 3 people telling me the same thing.
I think it must be a fear of 1st time mum that something won't be right. I have had hyperemesis gravidarum (severe morning sickness) so always been worried baby didn't get what she needed as I couldn't keep my pregnancy vitamins down a lot of the time. I was told things looked ok on the 20 week scan but I think it's just a fear at the back of my mind because I haven't had an easy pregnancy and never had much of an appetite. My friends that are midwifes reassured me that baby takes all they need from you but it's still a worry. I must sound crazy 🙈

Having HG is actually a protective factor for baby according to studies. I had it and could only eat thinly sliced cheddar cheese for nearly three months and have a very health DS. Plus with HG you're more likely to have a girl so it's probably right (though I had a boy so who knows).
