How soon is too soon to self refer?

Hello All

So I calculated the dates of my period wrong, I am actually two days late and positive pregnancy tests galore! Grin

Is 4+2 too early to self refer to maternity services? I am also feeling extremely nauseous (have been for about a week too - before I even thought I could be pregnant so it's not all in my head). Would just like some advice ASAP really, and next appt with GP Isn't until 17 Dec!

I also work at the hospital I am planning to self refer to, so I know I will get seen sooner (I hope!). On that note, I am obviously not telling my employer yet - has anyone had this problem?? Don't want to have to tell them this early.

Congrats on your BFP!

To be honest, I would call and ask about a referral. 4+2 is exceedingly early to refer, so some areas will ask you to delay for a couple of weeks. In my last pregnancy, we couldn't refer until at least 6 weeks and then I wasn't seen until 9 weeks.

There's no need to see your GP if your area offers self-referrals.

Thanks @GinaLinetti99 (love the username!)

I will ring and speak to them.
Just wanting some advice on any anti-sickness meds that I could take or be prescribed, don't fancy waiting nearly a month to get them from the GP is all!

Congratulations

Generally in our area booking appointments with the midwife are around 8 weeks and then she will refer you to the hospital as appropriate. I think that’s pretty standard. The midwife can’t prescribe antiemetics though, only your doctor can do that.

For nausea in early pregnancy I’d recommend giving anti sea sickness acupressure bands a try, they can help. Or there is actually evidence that ginger can help with nausea

If you're really struggling with sickness, see the go. Make a same day appointment, morning sickness on the whole shouldn't affect your every day life. Even if it's just feeling sick, they can still prescribe you medication.
Most midwives like to.see you around the 8-9 week mark so they can arrange a 12 week scan in good time Smile

Midwives round here first see you between 8-10 weeks so I phoned for an appointment at around 6 weeks.
Congratulations!
