Hi. Am very new to this asking for advice on-line as I am very independent and find it hard asking for help.
I conceived through fertility treatment after 4 years of trying. We had an early scan at 7w5d saw the heart beat which was amazing. We had our dating scan at 13w3d on Wednesdays and all the pictures on the screen were amazing, synnograoher very positive but baby wriggled so much (picture is awful btw). She measured NT to be 3.8mm she told us maximum normal was 3.5mm so we were taken to a private room to speak with midwife and to have bloods taken. She explained everything, tbh I wasn't taking alot in. She did say that she'd seen results in the 4. And 6.mm and all had been fine. She warned me that the likelihood was my bloods would come back high risk and she was referring us to a Fetal medicine hospital. I have not slept, am crying all the time. I just don't know what to do/think. This is such a longged-for pregnancy but I now just can't seem to feel positive. Please, any advice would be well received. Thank you.

Flowers I’m sorry you’ve had this news. I would suggest you ring ARC today for a chat- they will help you. www.arc-uk.org I had similar- clomid baby - and a much higher NT of 10mm. It wasn’t good news for us but I hope it is for you.

Thanks I've had high risk results in the past (my blood is always iffy!) and can understand the worry. Have you started to think about whether you'd like an amnio? The miscarriage risk is often much lower than the 1 in 100 quoted. The hospital will have their own risk figure and should provide it. It all ultimately depends on whether the news that baby has downs (or another syndrome) would effect your decision to keep the pregnancy. I've had an amino and found it scary, but ultimately immensely reassuring. It was the only option available to me in my area though. There is NIPT testing too which may be an option depending on the results you get. HTH.

Hi sorry to hear you are going through this it must be such a worrying time. I am 24 weeks pregnant now and we had a nt measurement of 4:1mm at our 12 week scan. I’m 37 so assumed more high risk. We decided to opt for the harmony test privately and had the results back within a week or so. It was a stressful wait but all came back low risk which was a huge relief. We had extra nhs scans at 16 and 23 weeks to check that everything was developing structurally, particularly focussing on the heart. All has come back clear and they have said it’s as good a chance as any of being ok now. I think they said at our consultant appt that with an nt reading of 4mm approx then there’s a 70% chance of a healthy pregnancy. Hope this helps and good luck over the next few weeks xx

Thank you for your replies I really appreciate the support and advice.

Bloods came back as 1 in 68 chance of downs, putting me at high risk.
Appt at Bristol this Wednesday for further investigation, another appt 25th July with fetal cardiac specialists.

ARC were amazing. I think I will call again tomorrow. We would love the baby no matter. We can not afford private tests and I do not want further tests on NHS that might put baby at risk.
Here's to Wednesday giving more clarity. Thank you again. Smile

Sorry to hear about your worrying news. There is a lot of hype about the risk of mc with amnio/cvs being 1% but the reality is that it is lower than that as they are only done in high risk babies thought to have an abnormality ..... so those at a higher risk of a natural mc. It's impossible to know how many would have mc anyway without the procedure but some would have.
I hope you got good news.

OP confirmed she wasn't going to have any invasive testing @Cariadxx

How are things OP?

zippyswife · 27/06/2018 13:05

Sorry to hear you are going through this. I had similar results with dc2. I didn’t have any invasive testing and I forced myself to stop thinking about it throughout the pregnancy (although the worry was driving me crazy!!). Dc2 is 5 now. He’s a pure delight. Completely NT with no problems.

I hope everything goes well for you today. Flowers

@sponge I read that yes but a lot of people quote the risk as being 1% and go on that which is inaccurate. I was just ensuring she was making an informed decision using the correct information.
