CUBS - result

I'm 15 weeks pregnant and has the Cubs test last week. This is my 4th pregnancy and apart from horrendous sickness all seemed well. Due to my age (38) hubby and I decided on private serenity test (nipt) and we recieved the results weeks ago which showed negative result for all main trisomy disorders. Fast forward to last week and I went for routine scan and at last min decided to have the blood test to check for Down's. Anyway the letter arrived this morning and it says baby shows a higher than normal risk of having Down's syndrome, and they have invited me to hospital on Monday to discuss results and discuss further tests. I'm now all mixed up as serenity test showed very small risk but this is contradictory. Have any of you been in similar situation, if so how did things turn out? Do all older mums get a high risk result due to age? So anxious and head is splitting! 😩

Do you mean the NHS blood test showed a higher risk?
Firstly the NHS tests are NOT a test for Down syndrome. They look at markers which if abnormal can show an issue is more likely to be present one of which is Downs but there are others too.
Secondly the private test looks at the foetal DNA not just markers so is more specific and more likely to be correct particularly if the baby is male as it's easier to ensure you're not testing maternal DNA by accident.
Thirdly the NHS tests give you an idea of RISK not certainty. If you want certainty you need to get an amnio or CVS.

Thanks for responding. 👍🏻Yes the NHS test showed high risk. The private test showed very low risk. Do you think that it's my age that has triggered this result?

The baby is a boy!

Yes it's your age and the fact that they look at different things in order to calculate risk. The genetic result is more accurate than the quad test which identifies 5 in 6 Downs babies, but it is less accurate than an amnio or CVS.
Hope this jealous.

@laurabmummyof3 what did you decide to do in the end? I put a post up this week about waiting for cvs results due to exactly the same issue (very low risk on NIPT, then cubs have me a 1:19 risk due to being 38 and having high HCG and low PAPP-A. NT scan was totally normal at 1.6). My cvs results have come back clear of downs, Edwards and Patau although I'm having further tests done on the sample. For me, NIPT was spot on and cubs just served in messing up my life for a week! Xx

Hi nervous, that's great about your results. 🎉🎉🎉I decided to take my consultants advice ( nipt test results supercede Cubs test, and disregard Cubs result). My results very similar to yours, specialist midwife said it was my age that tipped the balance and put me in high risk category as I am other wise healthy, Ive to have detailed scan at 20 weeks, where they will check baby thoroughly. 😀💕🍀
