Non-invasive antenatal paternity testing

Does anyone know anything about this?

The NHS website suggests it can only be done by CVS or amnio, which is not an option.

However there are lots of providers who suggest it can be done with a maternal blood sample only.

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience?

I think the nhs website is out of date. The same technology which is used for the harmony test (using maternal blood), can be used for paternity testing. I think.

I really am not to clued up on this but I remember reading a thread on here at some point and it can be done privately but I don’t think it is 100% accurate

The report I have says 99.9%

The company makes me dubious as I don't think much of the ethics, several paragraphs about how it can be done without potential father knowing

I used to work for a company that did this type of testing many moons ago. Yes you can do the test using maternal blood, it's best to wait until the 2nd trimester to ensure there is enough foetal DNA to get a result, but no you can't do it without the father knowing. For a start you need his DNA (usually a mouth swab), it's also illegal to test someone's DNA without their permission. Avoid any company that says you don't need his permission and make sure they are ISO accredited. The more markers they test the better - ideally you want more than 20.

Thanks fluffy, good to know it is theoretivally possible.

The company in question advertise I being possible from used condom, toothbrush etc so no need to get fathers permission

In this case potential father fully aware and provided a mouth swab

No idea if ISO accredited

No problem, glad to help. It's definitely possible to use a toothbrush or condom to get a dna profile just not legal! The wording I've found online for this is below (just in case anyone is interested). Obviously you've mentioned you have permission, but I would still avoid any company that suggests it's ok.

“It is a criminal offence under section 45 of the Human Tissue Act 2004 to carry out testing on a sample taken from someone without their knowledge or consent. This offence carries a penalty of up to three years imprisonment or a fine or both.”

It definitely exists, I'm having it done in about a month's time. Costs £899, there are quite a few options of companies, most have labs in the US.

I went to Spain on the 10th of july for 7 days and you know what they say what happens in Spain stays in Spain but having some doubts that it didn’t, I’m sure I had a peiord at the end of July for three days which is normal for me and then got back with my ex from beginning of August, my due day says 9/05/19 but then on another it says the 05/05/19 ... I’m just wondering who the possible father could be
