High risk t21, CVS test

Today I received the news that my quad blood test showed high risk of t21 (1:37) at age 26. I've had two previous pregnancies which both measured as low risk and have two healthy, wonderful dds.

I've read up on the CVS test on both nhs choices and ARCs websites and understand the risks involved and how the test is carried out. They both have described the procedure as uncomfortable rather than painful and I just wanted to know how others found it and are there any bits of wisdom or insight you can give me into the whole experience? I know that until it's been done there's no way of telling what the outcome will be so I'm trying to put that out of my mind for now and focusing on getting to Monday and having the test done and dusted.

I'm rather scared by all of this and would appreciate any info anyone can provide for me. Thank you if you take the time to read this as it is likely to be rambling and disjointed as I'm tired and struggling to sleep.

I had a CVS 2 months ago for suspected Edwards Syndrome. It wasn't very painful at all. I felt a twinge when the needle went into my womb (but they numb your skin so you can't feel the needle go in there) and I had some very light cramping afterwards for a couple of hours. You'll probably have dome more blood tests too.

Everyone will be very kind and understanding and try their hardest to make sure you are comfortable and not too upset.

The hardest thing is the wait for the results afterwards. We made sure we did lots of nice things to try and take our minds of it all for a little while.

Take care and I hope it all goes smoothly.

Thank you Waggily, I appreciate your reply and adding your own experience, I hope everything went well for you with your CVS. Fortunately my husband has two weeks annual leave off (He's had it booked for months so it's just good timing) over this time so he's going to be with me through it all.

I agree that it's the wait I'm struggling with at the moment. Obviously the whole situation is worrying but waiting to know anything is hard.

Again, thank you for taking time to reply

Hi
I had a CVS three weeks ago. It wasn't pleasant but not unbearable. Unlike waggily they didn't numb my belly beforehand. The procedure is over within a couple of minutes though, the wait for results is far harder to be honest (and for us what came after those results).
I had minimal cramping afterwards and no spotting or bleeding. Stomach felt as if it was a little bruised inside and the needle has went in right where the waistband of trousers/jeans would sit so had to pick comfortable, loose clothes for a couple of days.

Sorry you are having to go trough this, I completely sympathise with the emotional rollercoaster you are going through right now and I truly hope you get a good outcome.

Had the cvs done. It was uncomfortable as you both said. The local anesthetic hurt more than the actual process. Results on Wednesday or Thursday. Now to go have my anti d injection and go home and rest for the day. Thanks for your responses, they helped keep me calmer.

I'm pleased it wasn't too awful. Look after yourself over the next few days, you're bound to feel a bit all over the place. I hope the results are quick.

Glad it's all done. Take it easy tonight and tomorrow. I really hope you don't have long to wait on results. Will be thinking about you x
