Nuchal fold 6mm - advice and similar stories....?

Hi all,

I've spent since days now searching the net for stories of people who were/are in a similar situation to me.
Had our 12 week scan earlier this week and the nuchal fold measurement was 6mm, so we're in shock and very worried. I'm 41 too so this adds to the worry!
Anyone older mum been in a similar situation and had a positive outcome?
(I know it's probably unlikely!)
Thanks

Hi OP,

Sorry I am not an older Mum, I'm in my 20s and 17 with my first.

I just wanted to offer you a bit of support. Did they pick up on the NT at during the antenatal screening? If so did they class you as high risk of any of the trisomies? We had a normal NT however with combined bloods we came back as a high risk of downs and were offered either Amnio (invasive) or private Iona test (which is a blood test)

Have they offered you any further screening? If so have you accepted? My advice would be if you are worried then opt for further tests. Which tests you chose to do is entirely up to you, we opted for Iona because it was non invasive.

Just wanted to throw a bit of positivity your way and let you know that although things get pick up during the screening it's not always set in stone and still things could actually be fine.

Fingers crossed for you Flowers

The Harmony/NIPT test costs £400 but will give you a definate yes or no from just a blood test in a week or so.

Hi weasledee, I've only just seen your post, haven't been on here for ages. I'm late 30's and at the 12 week scan the nuchal translucency measurement was 6.6cm. We were given a greater than 1 in 5 chance for the 3 main trisomies. We had an amnio and that was clear of any chromosome abnormalities. We had a detailed scan at 21 weeks and no abnormalities were visible. I'm anxious but hopefull, I'm currently 6 months pregnant. Good luck!

Thank you for taking the time to reply seahorse, I'm glad to hear you're doing well, it's nice to hear positives stories :)
Unfortunately Mother Nature made the decision for us and baby passed away peacefully before we made the CVS appointment....
We'll get the genetic results soon...
Best of luck for the coming months :)

I'm so sorry Flowers

I'm so, so sorry weasledee, the same thing happened to me. (I did post on your other thread but have had an namechange since).

At the time I took a very small crumb of comfort from the fact that I was spared from making a decision, and that my baby was clearly very unwell. It doesn't make the loss any less devastating though. Be kind to yourself. Flowers

I am now four months out from surgery and it's slowly getting easier, bereavement counselling is helping.

I will keep you in my thoughts.

Thanks wookie, I agree is a small consolation that we didn't have to make any decisions. Work sent me flowers today, that set me off again.....

Weasledee I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. Have you got support from family/friends? Not quite the same thing but my first pregnancy ended in mmc at 10 weeks (for unknown reasons) so I know what a horrible time it is. Thinking of you.
