Would anyone recommend amnio for 1:10000 downs risk?

This is my result and I'm wondering whether it's worth an amnio or CVS

I thought it was low and then saw others with results of 1:300000 etc and got worried!

Has anyone had this result and still had a DS/DD with downs?

Understand your worry. Mine was 1:146 overt twenty years ago and I opted out of the amniocentesis. All well. Wink

OP - it's completely understandable to be asking these questions when it's your first pregnancy. I hope everything goes well for you (the odds are that they will). Relax, enjoy as much fuss and attention as you can get and look forward to delivering your little bundle! Flowers

However, if those results are from the combined test, consider the test's false negative rate.

From the combined test...so is that a bad thing?

Overall the combined test will detect 84% of pregnancies with Downs - the detection rate varies with age so if you are younger it is less accurate - see the link for more detail

No! I think it would have to be 1:20 for me to consider it. But I also would continue with the pregnancy regardless of result so might not even do it.

I had a one in 10 risk. Did not have amino as would have continued with pregnancy regardless. All was well in the end but very stressful time.

To answer your original question, yes. My friend had a number higher than yours (around 1:250000) and her son was born with DS. But the chances are minute.

I had a 1:14 risk for one of my twins after the nuchal measurement was 6.1mm. Did not have amnio but did have NIPT which came less than 1:1,000,000. I had a later amniocentesis for other reasons not linked to the initial screening and those results were normal. My twins are now 18 weeks and there's nothing wrong with either of them! So no I wouldn't choose to have amnio with your results.

There's a good chance that the NIPT gives you the same result as the combined, but you can be about 15% surer that the result is true. You have to think about whether that 15% is worth it.
As NIPT has no miscarriage risk, it would be much better than an amino with your odds.
But with such a good score anyway, it's also an option to relax and do nothing!
